I used to think Brandon Bass was just a decent player, but he's flourished this season, and I've really come to enjoy him. Seems like a great teammate, is definitely a hard worker, and has more to his game than I realized—he even passes!

My favorite thing about Bass is the fact that he goes up strong and dunks with two hands at nearly every opportunity. This is so much more enjoyable than watching Glen Davis barely able to reach the rim.

I know there are other Bass lovers out there; what do you appreciate about him? (My apologies if there's already a Bass appreciation thread.)

TP. Been thinking the same thing.

Best thing about Bass to me is how he's handled the transition from contender to lottery team, and many changes in roles (including getting benched in favor of younger guys), and constant trade chatter without becoming a malcontent. He's stayed professional throughout.

Thanks!

Bass is a professional through and through. It's nice to see him getting plenty of playing time and contributing greatly to the team's success.

I totally agree. It just seems like it's a given that when a player loses playing time that he is going to be the next to go. Bass has shown a lot of professionalism and even outright stated (I believe) that he does not want to leave Boston.

We get on these guys for not being everything we want them to be, but having a veteran presence with his work ethic and attitude has got to be wonderful for our locker room. He truly is the perfect transition player to have from the old regime to the new.

On an off-note, had Gerald Wallace been with our team in the KG/PP days and he were a little more productive, I think we would be saying similar things about him. The guy never plays, but is still a competitor whenever he gets the chance. It has to kill him knowing he has had all of this success, but having young, unproven players clearly getting the nod ahead of him.

I also appreciate Bass. A great bloke and an excellent example for any young NBA player in how you should conduct yourself in this league. He's been dealing with trade/buy out rumors for the best part of 2 years but just puts his head down and keeps going to work night after night.

Whether he's in Boston or somewhere else next season, I hope he is successful.

It seems it took Bass a loooot of years to learn how to finish at the RIM. The lack of this ability used to be very worrying, but right now he is doing that so efficiently! Or at least he is going strong for a hoop after 1 dribble.

I credit this to two points (eye test):
- He has learnt how to navigate through some contact without easily giving away the ball.
- Floor spacing has allowed him to execute these kind of action without much traffic. By that I mean that he could only be effective in attacking the rim if he does not try it too often. At the moment, he is in a good stretch of games of good decision making related to this.

As per another thread, I would be happy to see him as part of the picture in the future. He could hold a spot on a contending team (not a starter).

Like what he has done this season and has come on under Stevens.

Bass will want a three or even four year deal, I'm guessing...

He will get it somewhere.

I agree.  Even if he doesn't get three or four years someone will throw money at him beyond what  Danny might offer him.

I'm not sure Bass will get overpaid or be very sought out by other teams, considering he stayed in Boston these last two years instead of getting traded. Sure, maybe Danny's price (a first-rounder) was too high for a lot of teams but I'm not sure these same teams would be willing to offer a lot of money to Bass, even with the projected cap increase.

I've always thougth Bass was a meh player but he's winning me over with his play the past month.  really stepped it up.  still a bench player for a good team but I have some respect for him that I didn't have before.

I've noticed him being a bit more fluid recently and moving more like a small forward. Which is really odd for a 29-year-old player who's been a big for his entire career.

I've alway appreciated Bass, he certainly has faults, but so do our other Power forwards. His defense is better than both KO and Sully, he plays every possession, his conditioning is up to par with his profession, he's a decent scorer.
I know...his hand are not that reliable, he doesn't protect the rim, and he's 29 years old.

Bass has forced me to realize that maybe Sully taking so many possessions off, was causing the C's to be a below average defensive team. That's all I know is since Bass has started, our interior defense is much better. Zeller is benefitting from someone having his back.

I understand Bass is not the guy to build around, but honestly I'm not sure the power forward to build around exists on this team.

I think you're right about his increased fluidity. Lately he's seemed very smooth around the rim and going up, like a stronger-than-normal small forward.

Totally agree, watching Brandon is great. He's improved steadily every year he's been in the league. It's almost like he has totally embraced his role and it seems like he is a leader on this team...I'm proud of him and happy to have him on the team.
