I saw an old article with our dream 2015-16 lineup including WCS. Now that we are likely out of that range to get him I thought of a trade to go with the dream lineup I saw:

SAC: Sully, Turner, BOS 2015 1st (14-18), future second?
BOS: SAC 2015 1st, and Jason Thompson.

Kings can still get a solid player at 14-18 and start Sully next to Cousins and have ET run point/ back up Gay. Both are on cheap expiring contracts and they get out from Thompson's deal for the next few years.

Sign Greg Monroe for a Paul Millsap like deal (2yr/ $18mil)
Sign Tobias Harris (3yr/$36mil)
Possibly waive Wallace and stretch the contract for 2 years at $5mil to get total salaries around $64-65 mil.

Smart, IT
Bradley, Young
Harris, Wallace, Hollis-Jefferson (draft)
Monroe, KO, Thompson
WCS, Zeller, D. Johnson (draft)

Thoughts?

The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

This is a dreadful trade.  The Kings have been rumored all year to be looking to dump Thompson's contract.  Giving up Sully and Turner (who's useful at his salary) and only moving up six or so spots in the draft to take on a player theyre looking to get rid of seems like a gross overpay.

At least this isn't another farfetched trade scenario for DeMarcus Cousins.

As SL said, the Kings were rumored to be desperate to dump Thompson's contract at the deadline. So this does seem like an overpay for the Celtics.

don't like that plan at all.

- overpay to move up for WCS.
- take on a crappy contract for Thompson who still logjams the PF position.
- Monroe's looking for more money than that
- Harris is ok but not the player to get us over the hump that we need.  wouldn't tie up cap money on him.
- would never stretch Wallace.  he's an expiring deal next year that provides the salary size needed to trade for a player making good money.  why tie up the cap for 3 years when he's off in 1?

end result -  that line-up goes nowhere near the conference finals.  makes the playoffs but won't get past second round if that far

unless that is a #1 pick, I feel this is too much just to grab WCS. I see Tyson Chandler comparisons to WCS. And trading Turner and Sully and 2 picks for a Tyson Chandler imo is too much.

What about this instead:

Sacramento trades Thompson into the Tayshaun Prince TPE, and sends their 2015 1st rounder for the trouble. Boston sends back the 2015 Clippers 1st round pick.

Personally not a fan.  I think Boston has better opportunities for its salary flexibility than trading up to the 7-9 range.  But probably something SAC would consider.

I would do it if I was Boston.

have no desire to tie up cap space on Tobias Harris.

Ainge has been cautious throughout the rebuild, this is not a cautious move.   I hope he does not do something along these lines.

He's definitely a top 10 SF right now and he's 22.  He's pretty efficient on offense but I wish his defense was a little better.  He's like Rudy Gay if he cut out like 30% of his garbage heat check shots.  I'm not sure if that's worth $max, but we would win more games with him and he fills our second biggest need.

It is odd though that that Magic team has a lot of talent on paper and can't win for the life of them.  That and the defense are my big red flags for him

I really like the trade, although I think we could get away with just taking on Thompson without trading Sullinger in that deal.

No way Monroe signs for $9MM per. If we sign him it will probably be closer to the max then $9 MM. Harris will probably take close to the $15 MM.

I think it's more likely they sign Monroe, then move up in the draft to get Stanley Johnson. I don't see us moving Sulliinger until he's improved his value by coming back in shape for the first time in his career.

Our lineup could be
Monroe/Zeller
Sully/KO/Crowder
Johnson/Turner
Bradley/Young
Smart/Thomas

That is a solid rotation, which is incrementally better than this year's version and deep enough to withstand a 3 for 1 blockbuster type deal.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

This post is arguably the greatest twist in the history of CelticsBlog. A Kings trade which doesnt include Cousins???? What?!

I dont hate the idea. Id rather not give up Sully or take on Thompson for that matter, but if we are set on a guy at the Kings pick and it doesnt look like our Clips/Philly 2 can get us all the way up there, then this is a decent deal.
