Last couple of games its been painful watching Olynk play defence.  He doesn't seem to have any instincts for that part of the game.  When he gets aggressive he just over runs his spots and runs into his man.   Not sure what to make of him.   If he's not making and taking shots he seems to be a major liability.   I hope he shakes of the rust and somehow learns to be just and adequate defender..

Think that is a reach though...

I cringe at seeing Olynyk play period. His defense is nonexistent, and on offense I expect either a turnover or a bricked shot. I have been saying for a long time, and will continue doing so - discard sunk costs. For as long as there are naive idiots that believe in Olynyk's potential or see him as a net positive player - trade him, for anything. Preferably, package him on a draft day with our pick and Clippers' pick to move higher up.

It doesn't look pretty, but the numbers say that Olynyk hasn't been a defensive liability when on the floor this season.

Too bad that he couldn't get his shots to fall tonight, but he still made positive contributions to the team.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Move up for what, though?
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

All this is true, yet the team seems to play well when he is on the court.

Why has Olynyk become the designated whipping boy of this team?

A better player. We are probably going to pick 12th or 13th if we miss playoffs, or 15th if we make them. This (with a very high probability) puts us out of reach on WCS, Winslow, Hezonja, S. Johnson - prospects that are at the very least athletic compared to Olynyk. I am not saying that better draft pick would guarantee a star or even a rotation player, but we can get a younger player than Olynyk, with higher potential, one that fits the team better, and has 4 years on the rookie deal left compared to 2. I believe that PF rotation of Sullinger, Jerebko (resign), and Bass (resign for cheap, if possible) would decently cover all potential matchups. Olynyk is just an odd man out who can not defend, has shaky offense, and plays a position where we have more than enough capable players.

This just means that your expectations don't match reality.  Kelly hits shots at a high rate and has a relatively low turnover rate compared to other players around the league.

Because Rondo got traded and Sullinger got injured.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I don't mind him. I like him better than Sully actually. People expect Dirk. He's a solid rotation big. Relax..

All true, Kelly is an awkward defender. It's not rust. He looks like his feet are really heavy when he tries to defend.
But he works hard, he's not a lazy defender. Kelly is not starter material, he should be used as a scorer against second line players.

I didn't have to look far for a KO thread.   :P

I came to the conclusion last night that Olynyk has some key holes in his game which make his status as an NBA player questionable.  He is not strong enough to play front court positions in this league. He is constantly getting knocked down and many of his fouls are because his lack of strength forces him to foul. His shot seems to have disappeared as well.

KO's best asset is his court vision and passing ability which is great to have in a big man. Otherwise I see very little value.  Maybe a change in scenery will help.

Because he's the weakest link now. Also he falls a lot.
