Ive always been a big Sully supporter but as Ive said in other threads I wasnt DA to package him and picks for Faried. I worry that if sully does come out of this injury alright and gets in better shape that the Cs will end up paying him a crazy post salary cap rising contract only to see him falter. Faried would fit nicely in Steven's switch heavy defence. On O while he isnt as skilled as Sully he will score off of effort. I also like the idea of he and KO on the floor together. Completely different skill sets that seam like a nice match. Particularly with KO as the 6th man and Zeller starting.

Nothing ....he is the C's only serious rebounder, good free throw shooter,  Nice passer and clutch around the bucket.

The only reason ton trade KO or Sully or both is to land a prime time center......like Marc Gasol.

Players are always getting injured .   We are lucky to have two capable young PF s .

Both are better than Jonas ,

It's what do you do with Bass and Jonas.

The C's seem to be doing okay without him and will probably add more rebounding with a new center anyway.

Keep him at the moment.

Stop trying to trade guys at their low point value.

Keep him for now. Let him rehabilitate his value and trade him once he does. I like Sullinger, but I don't trust him. Especially after he gets paid.

He's 23.  You keep the development going with the kid.  Ainge and Stevens have let him know where he needs to be.  This isn't a joke of an organization like others....there is an actual plan laid out.

The option is always open to trade him.  Ainge knows his value right now if that's what it comes down to.  Is it better to keep him for the future ?  Sign him ?  Trade him ?  Ainge is the only one that knows this because he knows how other GM's in the league value Sully.  For now, you keep developing the kid.

I'm pretty sure they've been telling him where he needs to be for almost three years now. They're probably out of patience with him, especially since he's blown what value he had for now--and then he'll be coming to the end of his contract.

Yeah, he probably would come back in better shape next year and play somewhat better, but how confident are other teams going to be with him anyway? Do the C's want to maybe take a step back just to try to showcase him again, over playing time for, say, KO and Jerebko?

I'd guess he's available for a very modest price, but they may keep him for a few months into the season.
Not only that, Ainge has gone on the record at the start of each season pretty much stating flat out that Sullinger hasn't met his offseason fitness goals. There isn't much left to "develop", either, as far as I am concerned. He'll be what you would call a "young veteran" next season, and the fact that he's failed to be conditioned the way the team required him to, and that he's missed parts of multiple seasons with a variety of injuries does not exactly make you confident about offering him big money over long years.

The leading scorer of the team gets hurt for the rest of the season, and the celtics didn't miss a beat. Jerebko gets solid PT and contributes perfectly in the system and Kelly's back to spreading the floor. So what do we do with Sully? Personally, he's officially trade bait admist this surge. As skilled as he is, there' no fit for him here. Unless he magically turn his body into brandon bass over the summer, his fit in this offense is looking worse with every win.
I think his season numbers were inflated because he was the only "go-to" scorer and paint threat. Ironically, a 5'9 player has replaced him in both categories, while Jerebko's flying around for the same rebounds/tap-outs and making those 3s that Sully couldn't hit.

I have a lot of trepidation in giving Sully a big contract. His attitude and work ethic are questionable, making a long-term deal risky. I complain a lot about the Bradley deal but at least I know he'll always be trying. At worst, Bradley is still going to be giving effort. Sullinger can't even get in shape his third year in the league. Unfortunately I don't think Sullinger has a lot of value around the league and ending this season with an injury doesn't help either.

If the Celtics decide they're not going to match whatever crazy offer he gets in 2016 then they should probably just deal him. There's a chance he could come back and be gangbusters next season, but he'll most likely just put forth a "good enough" effort to get paid.

Maybe, but it can be argued that his stock has never been higher statistically. Flipping him for a 1st rounder or an above average wing player would be enough for me.

True, but with the Celtics playing better lately Sully's stats look even more like good stats on a bad team.

Ignores that "playing better lately" actually includes the stretch Sully was still playing in still, and that occurred prior to the addition of Thomas.

Sorry if someone already said this, but wouldn't it make sense to hold on to him until his contract year?  By then he should be either in better shape or playing for a contract, so his value should have risen by that point, unless he just eats himself out of the league.  Point being that we should hold onto him until then, as I am reluctant like others to pay him big bucks even if he improves.

bottom line - Sully is the best rebounder we have and best scorer around the basket.  his 3-point attempts are directed by Stevens which I disagree with wholeheartedly.

I'd like him to be in better shape for next year but what I really want him to improve next year is his D.
as for what to do with him -- keep him unless a sweetheart deal comes along that can't be turned down.

Agree on all fronts, including the bit about the 3-pointers.

I don't think there's a sweetheart deal coming.  His fitness and injury history aren't exactly secrets, so I think he's worth more to us than he would be to somebody else.

He'll be a restricted free agent in 2016.  If you keep him, do you commit to being willing to overpay him rather than lose him for nothing if someone signs him to a big offer sheet?  If so, how much of an overpay is too much?  What's the probability that another team will chase after him?  How many teams are capable of being stupid in 2016?  If you are willing to let him walk if someone else wants to pay him a lot of money, how much can you get for him?  Do you look for a deal this summer?  Do you wait until the trade deadline to give him a chance to rehabilitate himself, then take whatever you can get?

You let him start the year out, hopefully he plays well then you immediately trade him.  A big man with foot problems, those problems are not going to go away, let him get injured on another team.  If we could move up 4 spots in the draft by giving up Sully I would do it.

I'm worried about the signs of stress fracture injuries as much as I'm concerned about his weight.

If Sully doesn't come into camp 30 lb. lighter, and in top condition. I wouldn't think about giving him a long term contract for significant dollars. Plus if signed, the contract has to be contingent to him keeping the weight off. Like he said, "I've done it before"

Any thoughts on whether Sully could be a little better defensively if he is in shape? What % of the problem is technique, effort and fitness?
