When we had KG, Pierce, Ray, Rondo, etc, I loved cheering for the 'other guys,' but it's really hard to get excited when we have no foundation. We have a lot of decent players and Datome is yet another one.
Surprised that he couldn't climb in a rotation before now. Really wondering what the Pistons are doing up there. This dude can play. I'm not talking about the make/miss results because those don't matter yet on such a short sample size. I'm just talking pure skillset: keeps the ball moving, has a nice stroke on his jumpshot, displays a willingness to finish with either hand at the basket, can create open shots for himself, can handle the ball a little bit, active on defense and will involve himself on the glass. Was he just unhappy in Detroit? Because he could have missed every shot he took tonight and I'd still be convinced that he's an NBA player.
I've got to ask, with Datome and a lot of other guys playing well for us this year that fall into the category "Who would have thought?" Is it all Danny's eye for misused talent or dumb luck or both?
