I really like this guy's game.  Definitely should be in an NBA rotation.

Makes good, quick decisions.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
When we had KG, Pierce, Ray, Rondo, etc, I loved cheering for the 'other guys,' but it's really hard to get excited when we have no foundation. We have a lot of decent players and Datome is yet another one.

Again, a great move by Danny.

Dumps Prince who didn't want to be here and far too old to be considered part of our future for two guys that he can check out for a bunch of games to determine if he and Stevens want either or both or neither of them to be part of our future.

Two hungry players, I might add, and he saved a few bucks in the process. Atta boy, Danny! ;D

I like Luigi.  His name is "Datome".  I'm not a spelling nazi, but we can at least get a Celtic player's last name correct in a title.

I haven't seen him play yet, but can he please get rid of his Noah/lunch lady style bun?  Please?  I'm not asking too much, here, am I?

Very happy for my paesano, Luigi.

He really acts like he knows what he's doing out there.

Surprised that he couldn't climb in a rotation before now.  Really wondering what the Pistons are doing up there.

This dude can play.  I'm not talking about the make/miss results because those don't matter yet on such a short sample size.  I'm just talking pure skillset:  keeps the ball moving, has a nice stroke on his jumpshot, displays a willingness to finish with either hand at the basket, can create open shots for himself, can handle the ball a little bit, active on defense and will involve himself on the glass.

Was he just unhappy in Detroit?  Because he could have missed every shot he took tonight and I'd still be convinced that he's an NBA player.

I think it might be part of the coach's mindset that he didn't play much.  If the coach feels he can win by playing certain players then he will will stick with them and not gamble on an unknown.

Doc was notorious for not playing certain rookies or substituting out vets even though they were stinking out the building.  In one instance it took an injury 3/4 of the way through the year to make Doc realize that Ryan Gomes was as good as many of the players on the roster.  Then, he finally got to play on a regular basis.

I've got to ask, with Datome and a lot of other guys playing well for us this year that fall into the category "Who would have thought?" Is it all Danny's eye for misused talent or dumb luck or both?

Great question, I have been wondering that myself. Hoping he has an eye for misused talent!
