What do you guys think would be a good plan of action for rebuilding in 2015?  My best case scenario would be to.......
For starters I would include marcus smart, avery bradley, james young, isaiah thomas, jae crowder, tyler zeller, jared sullinger, kelly olynyk as part of the core for our rebuild.
Next (in an ideal world) we finish with a pick anywhere in between 7-10, and phili uses one of their high draft picks to draft a big man, so we trade our pick for nerlens noel.  But far more realistic we use our pick on willie cauley stein.  Boston needs an rim protector, and ideally an above the rim (very athletic) center to pair with sully and ko.
Last, I think we need to get a small forward and I think danny ainge is going in a defensive minded direction, so he needs to be able to play defense at a high level.  Ideally, we can go after Harrison Barnes.  Golden State has Draymond Green (up for a pay day) and Andre Iguodola manning the SF so I think this is realistic.  I like Barnes because he can do everything.  He (plays defense like I just mentioned) rebounds, can shoot, is an above average passer.  Just as important hes got good size for a SF ( 6'8 ) and is very athletic (as shallow as that sounds, with as many franchise and freak athelete SF's are playing the game right now, SF is the most important position to have an athelete).

Lineup:
Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger, Nerlens Noel/Willie Cauley Stein
Bench:
Isaiah Thomas, James Young, Jae Crowder, Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller

ps - thomas and zeller running the pick and roll is gonna be poetry
pps - Even if golden state isn't interested in trading Barnes, Draymond Green is soon up for a pay day & Barnes will be a free agent in 2016.  So maybe we can outbid for him in free agency (I doubt the price tag would be high).

Best best case scenario would be to give up whatever it takes (asking price is gonna be high) to go all in for embiid.  Article mentions Phili wants more firsts and god knows we have enough to pull off a deal.

that's not a "dream" rebuild.  more of a nightmare

"Dream" rebuild:
1) Clips miss the playoffs and we get their pick in the lottery.
2) The C's and Clip's picks end up 1 and 2 after the drawing.  I'm not particular about which order.
3) We get Okafor with #1 and either take Russell at #2 or trade that down a few spots to grab another very good young player from another team and also grab one of the top SFs this year.
-->other option is to grab Towns with #2 and play him at PF.
-->Wouldn't swap with Philly for their pick and Noel since he'd seem like overkill with Okafor and Zeller but would consider it.
-->possibly trade to Minny for Dieng and maybe the #6 pick (ballparking that)
4) find a solid rotation player with each of the 3 remaining picks in the draft.

I'd actually would have prefered to get either Russell or Mudiay with that #2  but with IT on board for 3 years, it'd just cause friction most likely and we don't need that.

Give DeAndre Jordan a billion dollars.

I think Philly is the only team with that kind of cap space.

I could only see this play out if Philly gets Okafor or Towns.  Even then, to Boston, or anyone in the Atlantic?  Very doubtful.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
PG-Isaiah and Smart
SG-Avery Bradley
SF-Kawhi Leonard
PF- Greg Monroe
C-Deandre Jordan

TP, but if we can't get Leonard, I would take J Butler and I would take Cousins over Jordan (although Jordan would be a great fit with Monroe).

The trade for Thomas has been a revelation. I think our backcourt is completely set now. I can picture Isaiah, Marcus, and Avery as a plausible contending backcourt rotation. (Not only plausible, but ridiculously inexpensive.) If a Dream Rebuild only has to concern itself with the frontcourt, then every non-Thomas/Smart/Bradley asset (players, picks, exceptions, cap space) can be used to acquire the 2 or 3 best forwards or centers who are or will be available in the next year or two via draft or free agency or trade. Better question then becomes, "Which star forwards or centers won't be available?" Because the Dream Rebuild would be snagging the best of whoever is left, by whatever means. Sky's the limit except for legit unavailables like Anthony Davis. Dream big.
