The Problems with Brad Stevens

Look at the players Stevens is coaching.

Rookies, 2nd year players with major deficiencies, over paid veterans that are past their prime, players other organizations have given up on. All while trying to win a few games, testing and developing players, building for the future, dealing with multiple trades and injuries, plus you have to keep the tankers happy, and also keep the "Fantasy league" basketball fans amused.

For now, I disagree with your beliefs. I guess the sample size is to small and mostly inconsistent.

I do think it’s unfair to compare possibly the greatest coach of alltime, and from one era, to a young second year coach from this era. To be honest, he really hasn't had a good enough talent pool to compare how he'd coach or distribute time to a consistent playoff contender.

I know one thing, I'd take Stevens "Gee Wally" over Slick Rick's throw anybody under the bus to save my own hide, and sell spaghetti sauce.

If memory serves me right, wasn't it Doc who didn't have the stomach for another stint at cellar dweller?  I wonder how many other seasoned or up-in-comers who would step up and face the ridicule this guy has?

So far this guy has done pretty well with ever changing hand he's been dealt. He's accepted his record with poise and dignity. I'm happy he's here.

Hmmm...I had to edit my 800,000 words down. You should have seen my original draft. Brad has been bugging me for awhile. 

I do agree with all who state that Stevens is young. I DO like that Stevens actually sat down with Heinsohn and listened to the Hall of Fame coaches advise. That shows maturity I didn't expect. Can he change? How will he be with a good compliment of players? Maybe time will tell. But I do not like that he doesn't support his players on the court. Fine, maybe Red Auerbach's ways might not work, but certainly Doc Rivers style would create a sense of team much more than a coach who looks the other way when bad calls occur.

[dang] LooseCannon did Pressey do something to you personally? Okay he's not great. I happen to root for the little guy. Maybe he made the NBA because of his dad, but I could sit there and list scores of players from 1995-2006 who were bad. Is this really Felger?

Everything I hear about Stevens from people whose job is knowing basketball, think the only reason we have one half as many games as we have is cause Stevens is too good. I agree with their opinion.

I will say this.   He is improving his game day coaching .  Slowly but surely .   

Right now his assets are .....he is young for a head coach ,  he is not set in his ways and can learn the NBA ropes.

Very even tempered

He prepares well.   Most of the time if the team has a day to practice ......it shows in the next game , which leads me to believe his message is getting across..

Improvement ......he could use a little of Pops surly ness  during a game .....to get the team to focus

Stop killing teams runs ...by resting the player that's on a role ......just because you want to stick to some strict player rotation .   You call a guys number based on a lot more factors than a written in stone game plan.   Game calling during the game , feeling who is got game is so critical.

The fact that there are not more threads like this are a testament to how well Stevens is doing. There were more "Fire Doc Rivers" threads in a year, even when the Celtics were winning.
