Completely disagree with the tank. A losing culture in the locker room can be hard to overcome if you allow it to continue.

Thomas will replace Sullinger's scoring.

I hear this philosophy but I don't buy it.  How closely will the current team resemble the team that will contend 4 years from not. Probably not very much at all.

The Wickes-Rowe losing culture was changed in about a day when Larry Bird stepped on the court.  Same thing happened when we added Ray and KG.  Overnight culture change.

Tank doesn't worry me at all from the losing culture perspective.  It does worry me from the you never know what you are going to get in the draft perspective.

I agree with Neurotic Guy. The "losing culture" only applies to perennially bad teams that are in perpetual suckitude (for lack of a better word). The Celtics are so far beyond that point already. Their coach still had guys playing hard, no one is stat padding, and morale is generally high. There is a clear organizational direction. The old Washington Wizards had a losing culture- remember Swaggy P and Javale McGee on the same team? The 76ers are probably the franchise closest to a "losing culture," trading known commodities just to trade them (ie KJ McDaniels for Canaan) or to get more picks (MCW for Lakers's 1st, which I actually liked).

To expand on why I think Jerebko has been superior to Olynyk this season,

I don't think either player has been or is starting PF material this season. Both players belong in bench roles.

I think Olynyk is a 3rd/4th option on offense. A solid scorer but not a go-to guy. Does not create his own offense well enough yet to be more than that. He is a very good ball-handler and passer. Olynyk can be inconsistent. A very good shooter

Jerebko I would rate as a 4th/5th option on offense. A low usage player who does not create his own offense. He has become a solid outside shooter and spread the floor respectably. He is a good ball-handler and passer. Clear advantage to Olynyk on offense.

I like Jerebko's defense. I think he is an average man-to-man defender and well above team defender. I do not like Olynyk's defense. I think he is one of the worst defensive backup PFs in the league. The difference here for me is larger than Olynyk's advantage offensively.

As rebounders, I'd rate both guys similarly = below average but adequate.

Kelly Olynyk will miss 13th straight game tonight. Stevens expects him back toward end of upcoming homestand.

IOW, Friday or next Sunday

Here's a great read regarding the varying effects of Stress Fracture injuries on NBA players' careers.

What about one with the effects of weight causing stress fractures/

Here is hoping he doesn't become Oliver Miller with more excuses not to exercise.

I wish a good recovery for Sullinger and that he comes back with an improved game.
Time for the Klynyk to shine when he returns... I hope  :P Show that the Dirk comparison made sense.  ;D
Goal for next season: Top 2 seed.
Say goodbye to: Turner, Zeller, Sully.

My wife says the weight may have been a small factor, but a bigger one would be poor stretching habits.  It most likely would have happened, but not for a bit longer if he had kept his weight down.

I've had a couple people mock me when I say that part of the training should be yoga. AB started Yoga this summer, and so far, knock on wood, he's been pretty healthy for the first time. KG also does it and he's still going at near 40.

What I figured Sully doesn't do the stretching , the work to take car of his self.

I'm so shocked he doesn't see the correlation of health .....to his future, money , fame ,  everything

For Pete sake ......it's his job as an professional athlete to stay in top shape ......smh

thanks for the explanation. to add to the above, another factor to consider is age. jerebko is 4 years older and no upside left, we would reasonably assume.

olly, at 23, may not have a lot of upside, but it is reasonable to assume that he might. if so, then given your points above olly might prove to be clearly the better player. if so, good for the celtics. they have two players who can contribute.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Very excited to see what a Celtics team of IT, AB, Smart, one of Hezonja/Stanley Johnson/D'Angelo Russell, James Young, Sully, Olynyk, Zeller + another center can do next season.

Disappointing that Sullinger goes down but I don't think it's the end of the world. We at least know now that we have some real players on this team. Now it's just a matter of whether or not one of the better ones can stay healthy. Though as Kane noted in Sully's injury thread, his injury typically heals well with rest and doesn't require immobilization (good for weight loss).

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.
