Mark my words, Olynyk is going to come back and cement himself as the long term 4 of the C's to end  the season.

I think I would take that bet, I bet Jerebko outdoes him.

I think Jeberko has outplayed Olynyk thus far this season.

This is just silly. I like Jerebko, and I think he will be useful, but he's in his fifth NBA season and has never had a year as good as the one Olynyk is having -- pre-injury -- this year.

Jerebko is averaging 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds (12.3/7.3 per 36 minutes) right now in his age 27 season. Olynyk is at 16.3 and 7.9 per 36.

Really looking forward to KO picking up some of the Sullinger slack.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Excellent news. With Sullinger out we could have a shot at saving face and getting the 6th seed with some clutch losses, We are only 1 loss back of being tied for 6 I believe
per tankathon this morning....

6      Sacramento   19-35
7   Denver   20-34
8      Utah   20-34
9   Boston 20-32

[dang]..Oh well, if we believe then anything is possible.

Maybe we could just try and beat the Lakers tonight and tank for the rest of season  ???

I think at this point the best way to beat the Lakers would be to lose against them ****

We have nobody on our team to build around. If Smart develops an offensive skillset outside spot up threes then MAYBE him but thats a huge maybe.

please define "outplayed". i ask since a quick look at stats throws that assertion into question.

jerekbo seems to be a pretty good shooter and is in the same ballpark as olly in rebounds and assists, but olly scores more and is 4 years younger. olly has some promise of future upside. those days are likely over for jerekbo, who is 27.

per 36 this season:

olly = 16.3 pts/g, 7.9 rbs/g, 2.5 assts/g
57%/35.3%/68.2%

jerekbo = 12.3 pts/g, 7.3 tbs/g, 2.1 assts/g
51.6%/36.8%/86.1%

Ah jeez.  :(  Ya know he's gonna be fatter than ever by the time he can even jog again.

Time to stop dreaming about a fit and well-conditioned Jared Sullinger cos it ain't ever happening.

The question is, does out for season mean out for playoffs as well?

The real question should be "Are the Celtics even gonna make the playoffs with Sully out?"

Defense. Defense swings it Jerebko's way.

I was intrigued to see the capability of the team (w/ a healthy Sullinger in the lineup) with the acquisition of IT.

This will definitely help the team improve their lottery position. Regardless of people's frustration to Sullinger's conditioning and/or doubts toward his ability, he's the best PF on the team and gives the team its best probability of winning. KO and Jerebko will have the opportunity to change that perception.

This off-season is going to be a crucial for Sullinger's future. I value Sully as the 2nd most important player on the current roster (2nd to Smart) because of his current ability (3rd highest PER on the team behind Thomas and Zeller at 22) and potential (he's growing into a 17-10-3 PF on a winning team). That said, if he can't shed the weight he needs to to improve his conditioning and speed, he's going to continue to be utilized as a misplaced and undersized Center. I think Sullinger can be the starting PF for a contender, but not as a starting or backup Center.

Hopefully Sully can recover from this injury and it convinces him to get in great shape.

Completely disagree with the tank. A losing culture in the locker room can be hard to overcome if you allow it to continue.

Thomas will replace Sullinger's scoring.

I hear this philosophy but I don't buy it.  How closely will the current team resemble the team that will contend 4 years from not. Probably not very much at all.

The Wickes-Rowe losing culture was changed in about a day when Larry Bird stepped on the court.  Same thing happened when we added Ray and KG.  Overnight culture change.

Tank doesn't worry me at all from the losing culture perspective.  It does worry me from the you never know what you are going to get in the draft perspective.

I fully agree with this. This is not high school sports, there is no concern for developing a losing culture from tanking. Once you get the talent on the roster, then you should worry about a losing culture. Before then, you should worry about getting talent above all else.

well stated. losing is hard, but it is forgotten once the team wins again. tp for the post.
