Does everybody compare everything to Rondo.

Rondo vs a Honda

Rondo. Vs. Ham sandwich

Rondo vs Godzilla

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to start a discussion about whether the point guard we've got now is better than the guy we had to start the season, given the fact that there was a lot of argument around here about whether it was going to be feasible to replace Rondo's production if he were traded.

I think Rondo and Isaiah are very different types of players.  But it's hard to argue that Rondo is having a better season, by any measure.  Rondo is, however, having a pretty awful year by his standards.  I think we'll have to wait and see how Rondo does next year, when he's well over two years removed from his major knee injury.

I've got serious doubts about whether Rondo will ever return to being the player he once was.  It's not looking good at the moment.  His scoring ability seems to have been seriously undermined and his shooting is still a work in progress, to say the least.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Remember all the wailing and gnashing of teeth when Rondo was traded.

Thomas is better. Much better.

Keep telling yourself that......you'll believe it eventually.

Just like Cypher, here:

"I know that IT isn't better than Rondo, but when I judge IT on just TWO games since he's been here and STILL make claims that he is better than Rondo?

"The Matrix is telling me that after TWO GAMES IT will be an All-Star, better than Cousy, better than Rondo, better than DJ...."

"After TWO GAMES, you know what I realize?"

Look, I like IT a LOT, but he can't carry Rondo's gym bag yet.

Hit the gym, fella...that is a HEAVY gym bag full of accomplishments.....Rondo's got a trophy, several defensive team awards and several ASG's in that bag.

Rajon even had LEBRON in that gym bag - he snagged him right after that CLE series in 09-10 and LeBron promptly broke free and ran to MIA.

Lead us to the playoffs 1st then let's revisit.

[dang].

Trading Rondo to Dallas and trading Austin Rivers to the Clippers was Danny's strategy to make those first round picks better.

wait what about

Thomas vs. PRondo ('Playoff' Rondo)

OR

Thomas vs. PrRondo ('Pre Injury' Rondo)

OR

Thomas vs. NaTRondo ('National Televised Game' Rondo)

OR

Thomas vs. RaaSRondo ('Rondo Against A SuperStar' Rondo)

When you are talking about Rondo you have to be specific which Rondo you are talking about.

Average game by isiah. But still goes 11-11 at the ft line.
Causes foul problems for the opposing teams but we can see even in off scoring nights, he can still get his pts getting to the ft line. Paul Pierce was also like this

IT already has scored more fts as a celtic in 3 games vs the last 22 games by Rondo

At this stage in their careers, IT is better overall player than Rondo and it's not even close.  You can't act like IT's performance so far is an outlier.  The guy has been putting up good numbers for a couple years now.  It's crystal clear that IT is on his way up and Rondo is getting worse.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

The interesting thing is that many of us here couldn't even spell "IT", lol....didn't follow him before the trade.....and now, after 3 games (one this evening vs the World Beater Knicks) IT is now the greatest thing since peanut butter.

That's what happens when you get an exciting, explosive player in a Celtics uniform.
I can't say that I watched a ton of Suns or Kings games but I was aware of IT.  As I said before, it's not like he's Jerebko and is putting up good numbers unexpectedly. He's been good for a few years now so it's not a surprise.  What is surprising is how he does it.   He's a flashy player so his style will generate a lot of buzz.  And that's not a bad thing.

Interesting shot at Rondo here by Ainge, in discussing Thomas:

"Even though he’s little, he’s a very good scorer, one of the best scorers in the paint with little floating shots, and so forth. He’s also a good 3-point shooter. I think Isaiah is better than anybody we have or have had in a while at scoring or creating offense in the pick-and-roll."

That's not a shot at Rondo, that's a fact.  Rondo stopped scoring for this team when they needed a scorer in the worst way.

A basketball player who shoots 40% from the FT better be 7 feet tall or soon they will be out of a job.

Is Isaiah Thomas the second coming of Allan Iverson?
