can someone explain to me WHAT in heavens the Jazz were thinking??

How do you trade Kantar and only get back Perkins? A guy you are likely going to waive anyways

Is this real life?

  • Yup
Wasn't it just a few years ago when there was pretty much a Wil Solomon deal and nothing else at the deadline for the league.  Very active deadline this year. No real blockbustes, but a lot of mid level deals going down.
Yup

Jazz got robbed unless nobody else was willing to give up a 1st for Kantar

Anyone else a bit annoyed we didn't get in on the McDaniels or McGee deals?

Houston got a steal with KJ and if it was going to net us a 1st round pick taking on McGee I think it would have been worth it - kinda fits our needs too with rim protection...

The McDaniels deal bummed me out a little.  My feeling is Philly wanted Canaan, so the C's couldn't match all that well.

And actually, if you want to get McDaniels in free agency, this is actually good news.  Because McDaniels will be a restricted free agent next summer, and he's only been in the league one year, Houston will have to use either their limited cap room or a good portion of their MLE (depending which they wind up with) to match an offer sheet.  Since they'll presumably want to keep Josh Smith, and will have to use those same resources to keep him, it could be very easy to make McDaniels a reasonable offer sheet that Houston won't match.  Philly, on the other hand, has huge amounts of cap room and could match anything if they so wanted.

This situation is how we lost Greg Stiemsma a couple of years ago, since Minny made an offer we couldn't match.

Dude at Detroit Bad Boys thinks Pistons made a downgrade at PG.  His conclusion:

Quote
There's not a thing that Reggie Jackson does better than D.J. Augustin did as a Piston. Well, rebounding. The other issue is that any hope for career improvement is meaningless in this context. Detroit has Jackson for two months.

For an inferior player on a two-month term, Detroit gave up a better player, the team's best wing shooter and picks. That's bad enough. But if there's any expectation or hope from this team's management that Reggie Jackson may sign on for a longer commitment, this could all get so much worse.

Detroit just made a costly exchange. It could cost the team what remaining hopes it had for the playoffs. With those hopes, Greg Monroe's interest in returning could also be extinguished. Last, Detroit will miss a draft pick in the second round, a point of value that is foolish to overlook. All for two months of a player that is inferior to the main piece they gave up to acquire him.

I'm generally dismissive of Jackson and have zero interest in him at his likely next contract.  My belief is that the trade makes the Pistons less likely to make the playoffs.

I can't believe that the Sixers gave up on McDaniels and only got a bag of balls in return.  I though that he would be part of their core in the future.  They are in super tank mode.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.
