Opportunities on draft day

When the draft order gets settled, I am interested to see what opportunities present themselves.  For example, if Minnesota gets the first pick, do they take Okafor and trade Deng?  I'd love to get Deng for the Clips pick or Olynyk and a second rounder. 

Or if Philly gets the first, who do they take, with Noel and Embid already, and Michael Carter Williams.  I would think they take Okafor and trade one of the other centers.  Would both our firsts get Noel or Embid? 

If we finish as projected now, I would like to see us get Deng somehow and draft a SF like Ombre.  That would give us a good young core to work with.

I've been thinking the same thing. Even taking a different approach, one can even wonder about us offering one of our youngsters and a pick(s) for a higher pick. For example, in one mock draft I saw Orlando gettting S. Johnson and us getting Cauley-Stein. Since Orlando needs a 4 more than a 3 with a Harris, we could offer up Sully and a future 1st for S. Johnson. We could then roll with a lineup of Smart, Young, Johnson, KO, and Cauley-Stein, which is a pretty darn good young core.

One thing I don't see Minnesota doing is trying to move Deing for anything less than a small ransom. Not a huge ransom, but more than a later pick, Kelly, and "pieces".

If I'm Minnesota, I'm looking at packaging Levine and Deing and moving into the 7-10 range to grab one of Winslow or Kristaps Porzingis or something. Moving Wiggins to the 2 permanently and getting a franchise chip at the 3 or 4.

Let's say Okafor, Mudiay, Towns, Johnson, Russell, and Porzingis are off the table at 7. Would you prefer any of the players left over Dieng and Lavine's potential? I'm not sure anyone left on the board at that time is worth passing up on an offer like that.

I agree. I don't think they should give up on the potential of those two guys for an unknown.  They are set to have a great roster next year just by making their own pick, which could easily be Towns or Porzingis.

Depends on where we are moving from.  If it is from say, the #7 pick I would guess the range would be anywhere from two spots (to the #5) to no spots.  It is possible that a gap will exist between those picks that a late first won't be anywhere near enough for team at #5 to move down.

Given that the Celtics are very likely to end up in the 9-12 range in the draft, I think it's plausible that Danny could move up to pick in the 6-8 range if he really likes somebody and is willing to give up an OK young player (e.g. Bradley or Olynyk) and a couple of additional picks in order to do it.

From what I've read about this draft, though, it doesn't sound like it's going to be worth it to move up into the middle of the lottery from the end of the lottery.  A fair amount of similarity between the caliber of prospects in the 5-15 range, then a solid step down in talent in the 16-40 range.
