Ok so we all know about Blake getting hurt.Doc is one the phone with Danny right now saying please help me. In all seriousness would Doc be willing to give up anther number one for say Prince and Bass? Third team would have to be involved but if he was willing to give up a number one would you help him  for that pick? Without taking on contracts beyond this year? This should be a good topic.

reluctant to help the Clips since it hurts us this year.  another first would have to be 3-4 years out to hope to catch them sliding down the standings with either CP3 gone or Blake starting to fade a bit.  would want more than just a pick but they don't have anything to offer.  would have to depend on the 3rd team involved

If you thought that making a trade with the Clippers would give them the 24th pick instead of the 22nd, then you should consider what you would have to add the 24th pick to move up two spots in the draft and ask for something worth more than that.

That's just an example, but it basically makes sense to make a trade that helps the Clippers if you get enough in return.  The math gets a bit complicated if you think there's a chance that the Clippers slip all the way out of the playoffs and their pick could end up in the lottery.

though i'm sure doc would love to have prince, thornton, and especially bass, in a trade scenario the clips salaries don't really match up with any of those 3 players unless we take on a bunch of players at once, and we don't have roster space for that.
so i don't think it's really a concern.

No help for the Clippers until after this year.

I would only help them if we did not get any long terrible contracts and got enough pick compensation (kings ransom)

Also knowing Doc, he would probably his picks more freely as he is not developing any young players e.g. he traded a 1st rounder for jared dudley than traded another 1st rounder to the bucks so they would take his contract

other than that, i would not help them until after this year, of course

why help Doc?

Didn't he screw the Celtics out of getting DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe?

As I recall:
Ainge wanted DeAndre Jordan.
Doc said no.
Ainge wanted a first instead.
Clippers to cheap.
Gave them Doc for a first rounder.

The Clippers could have had KG and Pierce, on top of their current roster. They were too cheap.

I remember it differently.

It was Bledsoe that Doc had the Clippers pull off the table. Jordan was still in the deal that they were close to agreeing to, but then the league basically told them that they were not going to OK any deal other than draft pick compensation for Doc and then, to make sure the teams didn't try to circumvent this with another later deal, put a year-long trade moritorium on the two teams as a condition of allowing the Doc deal.

It's going to be hard for anybody to help the Clippers at this point.

They are most likely going to need to ride out the stom and hope to bolster their roster later on with guys who were bought out following the deadline.

The only tradeable pieces they have that are not part of their big three and are making above the minimum are Barnes, Crawford, Hawes, and Redick and the only 1st they can trade is 2021 and they  have even traded thier seconds up until 2019.

I don't think Barnes is going to get you much and while they would love to upgrade him, he is still their starter., Crawford is an important member of their rotation, Redick is a decent starter, and Hawes is their best back up big who will need to fill Griffin's void.

So unless they are going to give up someone who is part of their current top 7 rotation, you are looking for a team that has a player in the 3-5M range, and that is willing to take back multiple bodies (and therefore waiving multiple players off their roster to make the deal), and willing to wait until 2021 for the payment on the deal. Very narrow market.

Help them screw up our pick ......oh yeah that's really smart.

It would cost them dearly.

i am not sure why folks here assume that because griffin will miss maybe 6 weeks of this season, that the clippers will panic, take an extra dose of stupid pills, and trade away valuable parts of their future.

while it is mathematically possible for the clips to miss the playoffs, given their current lead over other teams, i wouldnt bet my money on it. what the clippers are most likely facing right now is a lower playoff berth. maybe they will be the 7-8 seed as opposed to the 3 seed.

if they add prince and bass, what then? they wind up with the 5-6 seed instead? maybe? such a trade will not replace griffin and would generate only a few wins at best.

why would management give up valuable resources for a return that does little to nothing to help the playoff seeding of the team or add wins to the team? and all this assumes the clippers have the flexibility to make these trades, which they probably do not.

they will let griffin recover, wait out this crap storm, and then be posed to make a run in the playoffs.

that's my bet.
