But his rebounds, assists, steals #s for a pg is exceptional (rookie or vet)
Um, no, they aren't. Unless of course you mean to say that exceptional veteran PGs average 5-6 assists per game.
Tony Parker
Damien Lillard
Kyle Lowry
Just three 'exceptional' point guards who are currently in the league and have career assist averages between 5-6 assists per game.
Obviously you can't even begin to compare Smart to those guys right now, but when you consider that he hasn't even played half a season yet (and hasn't even started 10 NBA games) the fact that he's averaging around 5 points, 5 assists and 1.7 steals in games he's started is certainly promising.
Looking at the numbers Schroeder averaged last season...
Rondo averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds,6 assists and 2 steals 36 minutes in his sophomore seasons, but by the end of that year he had started over 100 games as a pro. It wasn't until his third season that his numbers really skyrocketed and people started to really take notice.
We've had way too small a sample size to judge Smart's potential to this point, but the fact that he had two consecutive games with 7+ rebounds and 7+ assists he had about 13 and 7 in one of them) is impressive for such a young rookie who still has very few games under his belt.
