Sixers (11-39) at Celtics (18-30) Game #49 2/6/15

Thought we played down to Sixers level when we got up big.

Guys stood around watched them shoot , not closing out shots

We took all kinds of poor jumpers .."..stopped passing ,looking for best shot ......then stopped going inside..     Smart and Young cold doesn't help

yeah but Thornton two 3s in a row made the difference, both Smart and Young were shooting bad tonight.

Oh that's nice. A guy with no future here helps us pull out a game which we probably should have lost and also hurt with the tanking. What's the point?  Worst win of the season.

I am puzzled by this attitude of only looking on the bright side.  This team has deeply embedded problems. Beating the Sixers doesn't exactly make me feel confident about the future, especially when there were so many reasons they could have lost.

At this point it is what it is - if we winning while developing our young players (Smart's been getting a ton of minutes!), then great.  If we lose, that's fine too.  No realistic fan could expect to out-tank Philly, NY, Minny, or the Lakers at this point.

I am puzzled by this attitude of only looking on the bright side.  This team has deeply embedded problems. Beating the Sixers doesn't exactly make me feel confident about the future, especially when there were so many reasons they could have lost.

I get where you're coming from.  But look at who we beat over the past three games - New York (awful), Denver (struggling mightily of recent, on a 5 game losing streak and 1-9 over their last 10 games), and Philly.  All are teams we should be beating anyway.  Can't lose 'em all.

Have to say, this game had very little entertainment value. Not much to take away as positives either for the Celts.

I'd say that's more a reflection of your own personal attitude rather than the actual game.

And?  I am a fan and was not entertained tonight. This was a lousy NBA game.

I disagree, saw a couple of things I liked here and there. You made it quite clear earlier in the thread there would be no possible positive outcome from the game. Makes me wonder, albeit very briefly, why you didn't find something better to do than moan about it.

Because there were too many troubling things in this game. Yes I said win or lose, this should be considered a loss in the sense that they have to do better. The team did not show me anything I can call progress in this game. Smart shot poorly but did have some nifty passes. Zeller played no defense but did well on the boards, etc etc. bass and Thorton are helping but have no future here.

As a Celtics fan for more than 30 years, I reserve the right to moan. Sorry it bothers you.

For some the glass is half full, for others it's half empty...you appear to have not even have a glass. You're mistaken if you think it bother's me. I view people with your sort of outlook with a combination of mild amusement and just the tiniest hint of pity and disdain

It's funny how commentators describe games as if everything depended on how the C's play.
Philly's terrible perimeter had a lot to do with our high 3p% in the first half, their hustle in the 3rd quarter had a lot to do with our terrible offensive performance.

There is ample evidence that 3-point defense is not well defined by opponent 3-point %.

OK this will sound like splitting hair. But it isnt really.
It's one thing to say that good shooting does not necessarily imply a bad D.
It's quite another to say that bad D helps good shooting.
I said the latter (which is really a platitude) not the first (which is obviously sometimes but not always right as your link shows).
TP for the link, it's great when ppl take the time to back up their opinion.

Fair enough.  I think the point is that the Celtics ability to hit threes is independent of the Sixers defense, but because threes are generally taken when players are more open, their willingness to take them can be affected by defense.  So to split the hair even finer, while you're correct that the Sixers effort certainly could have had an impact, it probably didn't have much impact on the specific anomaly of the C's high 3-point % in the first half.  Rather, that was probably dumb luck.

Actually sleeping an avg of 4 hrs works pretty well for me.
