Since I was doing a tank watch and the celtics have played themselves out of a bottom 3 finish (and probably bottom 5 at this point) I thought it may be some fun to try and get pumped about possibly making the playoffs.

Right now it looks like there are 6 teams that are jockeying for the final 2 spots.

Charlotte
Miami
Detroit
Indiana
Brooklyn
Boston

All of these teams have serious flaws. Of the 6 Charlotte, Boston and Brooklyn are probably currently playing the best. Do people think we make it?

I can't believe we are going to be in NBA purgatory. Hope the non-tankers enjoy the next decade of mediocrity, JR giddens clones, and 1st round sweeps we will go through.

How cute. TP to you for feeling so sad and generous.

I would like to either make the playoffs, or bottom out. It would be tough to TRY to make the playoffs and just miss it, but that is a very real possibility

I like the idea of Smart and some other players getting their first taste of playoff ball early in their careers.  I trust that we'll make some trades later, and not worry about ping pong balls.

Watching this team play hard is very fun, and i'd like to see that continue as long as possible
I trust Danny Ainge

We have an easy schedule this month, and we could make the playoffs.

Only a couple of weeks left, if Danny wants to dump veteran talent.

I throw mine around like manhole covers  ;D
All out tank job.
I have no problem with them shedding in as an 8 seed this year.  We're not quite bad enough to pull off an all out tank job.
Yup

I'm the same way. I either want an all-out tank or an all-out push for the playoffs. The worst would be just missing the playoffs and ending up with an even crappier pick. Though, I think there's a big difference in the attractiveness of a playoff-making Boston and a lottery Boston, so I'm for sneaking into the playoffs.

I can't stand a tank!  I watched almost every game (or at least parts of them) this year, but couldn't bring myself to watch the last two....even when I was told we were winning.  The players have been shuttled in and outso often that I no longer feel we have a "team"...and I don't even know all of their names...just a bunch of random guys wearing Celtics uniforms.  I hope Danny can remember what team unity and tradition are (if he ever really knew) while I still care...

Woo hoo

TP ....for thread !

This is kinda enthusiasm I like

I can live with a top five pick

But see n the kids tangle with the old folks in the playoffs would be fun.   Make em hungry for more next year and year after .....start the drive early in their career.

Making the playoffs as a sub .500 team isn't good.   Especially when the other conference has 10 teams over .500.

Move any players that don't figure in our future plans. Play the kids we feel do figure in these future plans.
If we win, so be it. If we make the playoffs (i'd be surprised) then except it.

But to keep players that don't figure into future plans, just to try to make the playoffs for a short term appearance is dumb.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

The teams that tank and get like the 9th pick in the draft aren't likely to do so much better than us.  We aren't getting the top pick. It's not happening. We aren't getting a top 3 pick. So we can do the Seattle Seahawk thing and just be losers or we can try to get into the playoffs.

We can't clear the floors completely and bring in a whole new squad. It is better for the prospects of attracting quality talent if the players we have are proving themselves. Especially the wins we pick up against quality opposition or, to some extent, the close calls.

I know many will say tanking is a reality and teams do it so you are giving them a draft advantage if you don't follow suit. I would rather use every game to develop, assess and blend rather than tank.

Playoffs or a close miss looks better to a prospective buy than a team that looks like it needs a complete rebuild. We need our targets to see players they would like to play with here already. Sure, they may want to know who else is signing, but they need to see potential here too.

Or am I giving too much credit to the sense of the modern pro basket baller?
