First off is to tank hard enough and luck in to getting the number #1 pick.
Draft Okafor as the next great Celtic star!
Then put some packages together to teams in sign in trade deals.
First target would be Draymond Green, pay him whatever it takes in the s/t and send them sully, turner, Cleve 1st and 2nd.
Then my next target would be Greg Monroe, pay him as well and send Detroit Sullinger great fit by Drummond, the Minnesota first and the 76ers 1st.
Next year our starting lineup looks like
Smart
Bradley
Green
Monroe
Okafor
I'd be extremely pleased if we worked that out. What do you guys think?
Its tough to get into best case until lottery time.
I will say this the line up you are showing could be scary and not in a good way. I think expecting Green to be a full time 3 is a flawed plan. Currently GS plays Green as more of a stretch 4 along side Barnes. Compounding the problem is the fact that Monroe is not at all a rim protector (sully may actually be superior in this regards). Okafor is not going to be anything more then an average defensive center and this may even take a couple of season to happen.
If by some luck the Cs do get the #1 pick and land Okafor I would expect few additional roster changes. I would think DA would want to hold his cards to see how quickly Okafor ,Young and Smart develop. The one exception would be if a player DA likes falls in the draft and assets can be packaged to move up. This could come in the form on an athletic 4 who maybe a better fit next to okafor (KO + Clip pick for Looney or KO for Harrell). If next off-season it becomes apparent that marcus is the starting PG then Turner would likely be moved. If Young looks ready to contribute 20+ MPG then I wouldn't be surprised to see DA stay with Young and Crowder at SF. If this is the case we might only see a 6th man 3rd guard added to the roster via FA.
TP for the reality check. this would something closer to what I would expect to happen (and prefer) than the original proposal.
I don't see Danny making a big move until the 2016 off season.
I don't get the mentality of people who say do/pay-a-player "whatever it takes" to get them unless that player is one of the top 5-10 in the league. Draymond Green and Greg Monroe are not in that stratosphere. They're decent players that only a foolish GM would break the bank for.
as to the OPs original concept of best case scenario:
-C's play hard all year and show improvement throughout the season. They're going to miss the playoffs anyway.
-since the #1 pick has only been the worst team 3 times, hopefully with the C's not being the worst team they're the ones that leapfrog to the top (or 2nd) spot.
-the Clips take a nosedive (or are caught by the teams chasing them for the playoffs) and miss the playoffs. their wonderfully unprotected pick leapfrogs into the top 3.
-Sixers play down to their talent and wind up with the worst record thereby giving the C's the 31st pick in the draft. Danny does very well with finding talent in the second round.
-Danny would have some other picks that would come from trading Bass, Thornton and Prince before the deadline.
-Danny is able to work a deal for a disgruntled good player on another team and use Gerald Wallace's now-expiring deal to balance the salarys and C's only have to part with one of KO/Sully and/or AB to make the deal work. the bulk of the the C's fans rate the deal a win for the C's.
That would be a best case scenario offseason
