Just wait until the end of next off season.
If you look at the Pierce / KG deal, we don't really start getting Nets picks until the end of next year and that is also when Wallace's deal ends. We basically traded three seasons of being bad for all of the Nets' assets when that was up: cap space and picks.
So we couldn't really do anything last year or this year, but after next season, we'll be stacked. I mean we roughly have a 10% shot at Okafor, a 10% chance at Muiday, and a 10% chance at Towns this season depending on if we come in 4th or 5th. That is 30% of all of our projected outcomes from right now. Worst case is we add someone like Stanley Johnson, Willie Caulie-Stein or Mario Hezonja, all of whom are super talented.
Plus, we'll go from $65 million of salary this year to $33 million next year - we could easily offer a max contract to either Monroe, Butler or DeAndre Jordan. THEN we get all the Nets' picks and ANOTHER $10 m in cap space, plus we get a ridiculous amount of draft picks to combine in deals. Our highest paid player right now is Avery Bradley.
We're going to be fine, but being good isn't something that happens overnight.
