"But in a year-and-a-half Rivers has now given up Bledsoe, Butler, Dudley, Farmar, Bullock, Douglas-Roberts, a first round pick, and a second round pick, and all he has to show for it is J.J. Redick and now Austin Rivers. Front Office Rivers has mortgaged part of the Clippers's future to correct his own mistakes in an attempt to help Coach Rivers out, and now it's down to his own son to bail him out.

Neither Oedipus nor Freud could have written a juicier basketball storyline."

Can't say I blame them. I think the bigger issue is his overall incompetency as a GM though.

I really like Doc, but it would be pretty sweet to see that team somehow miss the playoffs this year.

It's not that out of the question. OKC and NO can both make a push for the playoffs, and Phoenix has been making moves to stay in the playoff picture. One or two of Dallas, Clippers, Spurs, and Phoenix can easily fall out of the playoffs, and I don't see it being Dallas or San Antonio. The West is [dang] tough!

So far I think Austin Rivers might be a better NBA player than Doc is a GM.

Suffice it to say, that's an insult to Doc, not a compliment to Austin.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Still plenty of season left.  It's only like a 5-6 game gap.  If someone gets injured, it could get interesting.

In all fairness, the only player he gave up that could've really benefited the team longterm (at least at this point in time) is Bledsoe - they should've kept him and played him at the 2. Farmar and Dudley in particular performed well below expectations and guys like Bullock and Douglas-Roberts didn't have expectations at all.

I never like Doc.  Always thought he was two-faced.  Glad to see him fail.

6.5 and likely 7 after they beat us today (LAC-OKC). But yeah, still half the season left and a very tough 6 week stretch coming up for them at the end of January. As I mentioned in the game thread, so far this year of their top 6 players, they've only missed 3 games combined (Barnes 2,Crawford 1). Bunch of flippin' Cal Ripken jr.s over there.

I don't think he's done anything egregious as a GM EXCEPT! :  He only got Reddick and Jared Dudley for Bledsoe.  That seemed very lopsided to me at  the time and I was surprised he didn't get any criticism for that deal, not even getting a pick.  I think the reason people thought it was an okay deal is that Phoenix had a really good year with those two guys as starters/contributors, so it looked like they could really bring it or something.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I also highly questioned the Bledsoe deal (I barely knew who Dudley was and apparently missed his success as an NBA player), but it made some sense at the time. They wanted to get a knock-down shooter (Redick) and needed some forward help. Bledsoe was never in the future plans for LAC, but it really wasn't any worse of a deal than OKC sending Harden out of town and Presti is still considered one of the top GMs in the NBA.

Frankly, the worst deal the Clips made was sending a first to get Rivers, but that wasn't Doc's fault...and even then, Doc made sure that D Jordan did not get sent back as compensation. That has obviously proven to be a very keen move.

TP thanks for sharing that.  classic.

This move could very well ruin the already tedious chemistry in LA.  Can see them missing the playoffs, then Doc refusing offer his son a new contract.  Or worse re-signing him!

Either way genius move by Ainge to improve our LAC asset.

I've said it before but I haven't bought into the Clippers hype. I like that they turned the franchise around from a laughing stock but I don't think they can make it past the WCF with Memphis, Dallas, Houston, SA, GS, Portland,  and a healthy OKC in the way.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Haha I'm not really sure that the Oedipus comment was justified since Doc is of the Y chromosome persuasion, but it was funny regardless!
