I'm breaking mine down into different segments.
I'll start will the young players that have now been around for a while. Maybe not this offseason, but I think at some point next year Ainge has to start thinking whether he really wants any of these players as part of a core for hopefully a future playoff contender, or flip them for other assets. Most of them I would guess would only show minimal improvement from here on out, but maybe Sully and KO can surprise us with a big jump to their games.
Turner age 26-1 left year on contract after this season
Zellar age 25- 2 years left
Crowder age 24- 1 year left
Bradley age 24- 3 years left
Olynyk age 23 -3 years left
Sully age 22 -2 years left
Smart and Young get a pass for a while since they are so young, and they appear to have some nice upside.
Next segment consists of vets Thornton, Prince, and Bass. I would think all 3 could help a playoff team. Maybe a team gets desperate, and we get a future protected draft pick of some sort. We'll find out soon enough by the trade deadline.
Next segment is the trade exemptions. We have 12.9 Rondo and 5 mil Wright one, and other smaller ones. We have easily the most trade exemptions in the league. Maybe we rent out space for assets like the Cleveland trade last summer.
Next segment is free agency. I doubt that any high profile free agent would leave their current team to come to us, so I think we might have to be patient for a year or 2 here as Ainge compiles more assets.
I think it's too early in the game to start flipping some of these draft picks for a very good player as I don't really see anyone available we could get just yet. I think we could be a year away from starting to see that happen.
Wallace is on an island by himself, but maybe we could use him in a trade starting this offseason as an expiring contract.
