It was hard for me to see green and rondo go, but the logic of this thread is sound. Boston's money is as green as anyone's.  Get some picks in case they don't resign. Let them explore the market. If they don't get the big offers they hope for, Boston is a possibility for return, depending on what else we have up our sleeve with draft, trades, alternate FA targets, etc

They're gone, LarBrd33.

How much longer are you going to trash them?

Saying that you don't want to pay a player x dollars isn't trashing them.

But TBH - the title of this thread just seems classless.

And this comes from the same poster whom I remember has called Rondo - "A Terrific Player".

For all their faults/whatever - they've both exhibited Celtic Pride.

Jeff Green's life was threatened with his heart condition...he's played out of position in OKC, came to BOS for a very popular player (Perk), endured the KG/PP trades, seemed to flourish under Rondo, then had Rondo traded, lol smh...

Rondo's played with a broken arm, etc, etc, etc..

Granted - I've accepted the direction that the team is going in, but I'm not going to trash two players whom at one time figured large in BOS's future.

Danny's changed direction. I accept that.

But as long as there are threads like this, there will be dissenters.

Yeah this is getting annoying. Rondo and Green are good players who had great games during their time with the Celtics. I like the young players on the Celtics, but let's repsect the two people who gave the Celtics some entertainment over the years.

I'd sign Rondo to a max deal and trade Smart this summer in a nanosecond.  Smart is the most overrated Celtic in a decade.

LOL he's played what 20 games. Wow your good.

There are a few FAs that I wouldn't mind Ainge kicking the tires on this summer, but realistically I think I'd like the Celtics to lay back in 2015, and protect their cap space and open roster spots. I hope we draft 1 or 2 legit center prospects in the draft plus BPAs with the rest of the picks we use.

Then in 2016, we make a splash in free agency.

30 million in cap space?  $16-17m to Paul Millsap, $13-14m to Omer Asik.

Personally, I'd prefer to see Rondo and Green re-sign with Dallas and Memphis, respectively.

I can't wait to watch them both play in this year's Western Conference playoffs.  Should be fun.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

You'd waste $30 million in cap space on those two guys!?  Oh for the love of ray j. ;) ::) ;D

Also, I'm not interested in anyone on that list, because none of the big guys are coming here, and even if they did, they just don't fit where our team is right now.  The only free agent I'm interested in is the dude who should have been a Celtic from day one - KJ McDaniels.

I'd like to see about 20 mill to Jimmy Butler or Kawhi Leonard... and 12 mill to Greg Monroe.. Seems like a better balance than 2 Bigs. Also goes well with the "youth movement" that we're hearing so much about.

Lol seriously though rondo/green were fine players. Don't get me wrong. Jeff is a top 150 player and rondo is a top 100 player. But lets have perspective here.  We didn't just lose Larry Bird and Kevin McHale. We lost slightly above average players who are in fact replaceable.  When you can replace Green/rondo with the bench dwellers on your own team and barely skip a beat, it's a telling sign you didn't need to pay max money for them.

Fact is, there are several Rondo/Green level players in free agency this year.  I wouldn't suggest giving DeAndre Jordan max money any more than I'd recommend giving jeff green max money, but if you feel like blowing oodles of cash by overpaying a starter, the opportunity will be there this summer.  By trading green and rondo for draft picks we essentially lose nothing.  If we choose to overpay players, we can. We will have received all these draft picks basically for free.

Im not sure how else I can explain it.  All things considered, trading Jeff green for Omer asik would have been a defensible and logical move.   That's a pretty even swap in terms of talent. Both will probably fetch more money than they are worth this summer.  But why trade Jeff green for Asik if you can trade Jeff green for picks and then just sign Asik with the cap space?  I know some folks are attached to the names, but think about it logically.  Put your emotions aside. Trades were a no brainer.

The post makes perfect sense.  Either you get door #1 with draft picks/expirings/TPEs...then spend same money on better players....thus having both things

or

door #2 =  overpay 2 good players and get a years supply of Rice-a-Roni and 5 more wins.

Maybe I'm just not reading into it what you are. After all, interpretation is done by the reader and not the writer. I don't think there's anything malevolent in it, but that's just me.
