This is why I don't agree with people that say we wont be able to get a legit FA to sign with Boston.
Oh, we will have money.
But we are a cold weather town, in a nice market. Players that do well here are nigh worshiped. But the brutal winter is not a good selling point.
We also have no one on our team who will draw interest from other players. Rondo was that guy and he was gone. I really do not see guys saying I want to play with Sullinger or Olynyk, unless they want to look better perhaps.
If nice weather is how you get players to come, then why did it take the Clippers, and Worriors so long to become good. Why does Sac still stink, and why is no one rushing to Orlando, or The PHX?
Yeah for some players it might come into play, but so could and extra 3 or 5 mill. I'd take the extra cash and book a vacation to a very warm place right after the season ended to thaw out my back side.
With the CBA is hard to sign more than two players to a big contract and have a good bench. Look at Cleveland, it's Miami all over again. GM's are going to notice this. And right now if you can get a guy for around 18 or 20 mill . In 2017 the cap jumps 20 mill. That gives you a ton of wiggle room to work with since you already have a guy signed under the older cap.
It's really hard to say, we can go back and forth about this over and over again, but we haven't been in this position for a very, very long time. We are still a bit fresh with having a winning team for an extending period of time, so it's not like we're the Bucks.
Plus didn't Lowry pick Toronto over Miami? I think Boston has a bit more cred than Toronto. So I'd say nothing is impossible.
