I think its a good pickup.. I know some will bicker that they should have taken the future 1st but where does that fall 25-28th pick?

Rivers was a top talent coming out of his class, has 2 full years under his belt, and is only 22 years old.. Hes shooting terribly the first few years but that can always be fixed... welcome aboard

Looks like we still get the first round pick and Austin.

Austin Rivers is garbage.  He's a salary dump here.  If he gets minutes, it's to help us lose games and improve lottery position.

Seriously, he's one of the worst guards in the NBA.

I personally love the deal even more because of this.  I believe people are giving up on this talent way to early.

He's 22.  You think he can't develop still ?  Or is he a finished product ?

yes, welcome to austin, why not welcome him?

worst case is he continues to compile a mountain of suck as a player, but they dump him at the end of this season. let's face it. any more suck that austin can provide this team may actually be a plus.

next, what if under CBS austin regains his 3 point shooting, learns to drive to the basket better, and becomes adequate at defense, passing, etc? then for basically nothing the celtics have a credible backup combo guard...who can either play for the team or get flipped for a draft pick or included in some other trade.

originally the trade did not have rivers. now it does. ainge did better than i thought he would.

I seriously doubt that is Danny's intention in bringing AR.

This year is a wash anyways.   Lets see what CBS can do with Rivers. If he does not improve his play, efficiency,  you are not committed to keep him after this season

Thank God we didn't draft Rivers.

Not sure why Danny wants him.

Maybe to make Bradley look good.

3 years of hand-fed minutes isn't long enough?

wait a minute!! i think i have seen this somewhere before.  :D

roy, not sure why the extensive sputterings and lamentations here. yeah, rivers so far stinks. but the celtics are a team who actually gives minutes to pressey. there is no way that rivers is somehow going to hurt the celtics in anyway, shape, or form.

this is really a non-issue since rivers will not affect the outcome of this season in any meanginful way.

as you mentioned, he is a free agent after this season. worse case is helped the celtics shed salary. good! best case is he turns into a credible (read better than pressy) nba player and the celtics got something for nothing. even gooder!  ;D

Screw it, he's worth a shot - he's got some talent, even if he hasn't learned how to use it.  And worse case he improves our draft pick and makes Bradley look better by comparison.  Why not?

Wow, Roy, a little harsh!  Admittedly I haven't seen him play much, and his numbers have been pretty consistent for his time in the league---but---he's just into his third year in the league and is only 22.  Takes some guys some time to figure it out, and sometimes the right coaching to bring out the best in a young kid.  I guess Gerald Green would be a great example.
His numbers are MUCH better playing at home---47% from the field,  40% from three, and 80% from the line.....the kind of numbers that make you believe he's still trying to get comfortable, both with his game and in the league!
Youth is on his side, so let's give him a fair shake!

There's no downside to adding Austin Rivers to our temporary, ramshackle, freakshow roster. The upside isn't great, but there's no downside. Our bench is going to have like 5 Keith Bogans's on it in a minute- we'll probably pay Tayshaun Prince and John Salmons to stay home and play Xbox. We can't spare a seat for a 22-year old ex-prospect with nice handle and a cute floater?

If he improves in some facet and becomes a useful player, then great.

Would he be a top 5 pick in this years draft ?
