If Doc had any brains, he'd want Jameer Nelson from us instead of his own kid.  He'd be an upgrade over Farmar, and a little less than $300k more than Austin.

Nah. Nelson would be a commitment for another year and wouldn't play. With Austin Rivers, he probably only sees the floor in garbage time, but they get a few months to evaluate him as a young guy they can develop for the future.

They are looking for an end of the bench young guard to develop, not for an end of the road PG.

...which is why they signed Farmar this offseason, apparently.

But they could use somebody better.  Nelson is a better player.  Farmar is having a DISASTROUS season this year.  I have League Pass, and it is clear that when various color analysts talk of the Clippers they always mention them needing an upgrade at backup PG.  I'm not Nelson's agent, and I could care less - but the eye-test shows that Nelson is a better player and would really help move the ball around for what that team needs.  Farmar would get a lot of DNP-CD's, but he's not helping that team.  CP3 is getting worn down out there - Nelson could help them much more than Austin Rivers ever would...

actually cdr+udoh will not work under the cba cos they are over the tax threshold

You can bring back up to 125%+$100k when over tax.

($981,084 (Udoh) + $915,243 (CDR)) x 1.25 + $100,000 = $2,470,408

Rivers makes $2,439,840. Works with $30k to spare.

Of course, to do this and not release anyone currently on the roster C's would first need to complete deal for Prince and Rivers, then separately trade Rivers to Clips and release Prince to stay at 15 players.

EDIT: Above salaries are from Hoopshype.  Im fairly sure CDR makes more than Hoopshype listed (he should make same as Udoh) which makes deal work with even more room, but it works either way.

And Nelson is, in fact, having a WORSE season than Farmar -- worse production per-minute, worse shooting, fewer games played.

The only reason he got PT in Dallas was because the alternative was, well, playing Raymond Felton.

Yeah, that's why the deal hasn't been done I guess.  Clippers need to find someone who likes Reggie Bullock enough to make a deal happen.

I love how Celticsblog was agog about the possibility of landing Austin Rivers the year before he declared for the draft.

The interest level was so high. If ONLY we could get Austin Rivers.

Funny, how a couple bad seasons to start his career have everyone completely hating on him.

Just remember what was said about old friend Gerald Green. Gerald's got a pretty respectable PER of 16.9 right now according to basketball-reference.

Green is 29 right now, so it took him what, 9 years to play himself into a semi-productive player on an good team? If that's the template for Rivers, he's practically irrelevant to us at this point.
