As a lifelong Celtics fan (51 yrs) it's hard to sit back and watch what's going on with this team.  I am one to always try to see the positive, but I can honestly say this is the first time I can't find any.  If you want to count 37 #1 draft picks as a positive then Ok, but even in 2007 when we lost 18 straight, there was still reason for optimism because we had a young budding superstar in Al Jeff and even Rondo, although it wasn't obvious then how good Rondo would be. We also had a cornerstone in all-star PP so I had at least a little hope that things would soon turn around. THIS train wreck of a team that Danny has put together...how the heck do we go from championship contender to this? I know our superstars were aging, but seriously this is the best Danny could do? Teams are adding productive pieces left and right and we trade for bodies just to release or trade again! We have nothing that even resembles 'star' talent much less superstar talent.  We have a coach who thinks what worked in college is going to work in the big leagues, which it wont. Totally different managing kids with no money that are trying to get to the next level then it is managing superstars that's getting direct deposits each week that's more than most of us make in a year! A supposed star that sulks, an overweight PF that shoots threes, a guard drafted at 6 to replace our superstar guard who doesn't know how to drive to the basket and settles for jumpers all game, a 6'3 2-guard who thinks he's Ray Allen, an outcast who was tossed into the starting point guard position because we have no one better, a 4 with a good shot and decent low post moves that's scared to shoot the ball and a center who was a backup at best as our most productive player. Just plain pathetic.

Forgive me, I'm just tired of this crap. We are the BOSTON CELTICS, a STAPLE in this league...The house that RED built and we're being laughed at by Raptor fans?

How did it get to this? SMDH....See you tonight at Indiana (waves and walks away with head down and hands in pockets)

Perfect.

I understand the Rondo trade.  I understand Danny couldn't get equal value.  But, why in the hell trade for players you don't want?

To fulfill salary cap rules so that you can get the picks you want.

I remember the Celtics being terrible since I was about 12 except for the one season they overachieved and got destroyed by the Nets in the ECF....and I'm 32.  Ainge made them good for the only time in my adult life and when he took the team over they were worse than they are now by a long shot.  They were hopeless.

Now, we had a chance to dump KG (shell of himself), Pierce (still good but can't carry a team single handedly) for a murder's row of assets that don't really come into effect until the end of next season, when we start getting the Nets picks and dump Wallace's contract.  At the end of next season, we'll have like 30 million in cap space and a bunch of lottery picks.  We won't be good yet, but that's what you need to get good.  Getting good is something your team has to earn, it isn't something you're entitled to.

Do you even remember the last season with KG, Pierce and Rondo as our stars?  We came in 7th in the East and lost 4-2 to the Knicks.  That season was like 100x more depressing than watching our team rebuild.  I don't know what moves anybody could have done to keep the train rolling, but I wouldn't take back any of the moves to win a championship back and after that, I mean what star could we have added?  Josh Smith?

All I can think of when people get pessimistic like that is the "don't care how, I want it now!" part of this song:

tp and i wish i could give you more
i am also a lifelong celtics fan and in the prime of my life  ;)

I have always loved the celtics for the heroes they gave us throughout my life.  Red would always keep the star player(s) and fit pieces around.  Hondo, Cowens, Bird, Pierce etc
What we are becoming is just another sports team.  I want Bird to play out his career here and not be traded for a package later on.  I want McHale to retire a celtic not be traded because of failing health which by the way was done playing through the playoffs injured.  I want PP to grow as a player from his rookie year and put pieces around him to compliment him and give us a championship.
Green and Bass are soon to be gone, wright, thornton, nelson probably as well.  Who am I watching again, smart, zeller, ko and sully?
strange days indeed

TP, feel the same way.

Would have much rather attempted to build around Rondo, than trade him for trash and hope our average players can be traded for average draft picks.  And while were here, shouldn't it be pointed out that Ainge has been utterly TURRIBLE at drafting?  When was the last time Ainge drafted a starter caliber player?

Meanwhile, we pass on the likes of: Chan Parsons, Deandre Jordan, Gorgui Deing, Giannis, Nuric, Gobert, Lance Stephenson, Wesley Matthews, McRoberts, Marc Gasol and the list goes on and on.  Sure, hindsight is 20/20--- but really is it too much to ask Ainge to hit on 1 out of 3?  Think of the list of players he's drafted who've flamed out of the league all together.  He's not finding NBA talent with any kind of longevity.

Even right now, halfway through the season, already looking like LaVine and EPayton are better guards than Maacus Smart.

So yeah, I have no faith in Ainge's plan to draft the next contender.
C's will always be my favorite team, but until they take themselves seriously I won't either.

Yeah but Ainge is the best at drafting undersized power forwards.

I think that you're looking at this the wrong way. This isn't 2007 but more like 2004 when we actually started the build towards 2008. And minus Pierce, this team has a much brighter future IMO with all the picks and cap space coming.

The problem is Danny doesn't seem to have a clue what he wants to do.  It's like he's scatterbrain right now. He needs to check himself into a roadside motel out in the desert somewhere in Arizona with just him and his thoughts and ask himself "What am I doing?"  It appears he's doing so much with all the trades, chatter, rumors, acquiring picks etc when in reality we're sinking in quicksand.  That's not "I want what I want" that's GET A PLAN AND STICK WITH IT!

He is gathering picks if you can't see that I feel sorry for you.  I can easy see that, why can't you?
He tried to add a piece this summer to go with Rondo and Green it didn't work out.   So now time for plan B the long rebuild.

Ainge knows what he is doing, things don't always go the way you want them to though.

Exactly, not seeing/agreeing with Ainge's plan =/= Ainge doesn't have one.

TP for the thread, for sure.

I feel the same.

Seems that we have plenty of picks already, AND had a real shot at an entertaining season and run to the playoffs. I realize that doesn't help w/ draft picks, but it does help with the momentum and all around optimism within the organization.

Giving up Rondo for zilch has me truly depressed. The team is now luffing in the wind with nowhere to go. Seems like we should forfeit the rest of the games this year.

We could be winning while building young talent through the draft but we choose to depress ourselves and the franchise in the process. I guess you can't have the best of both worlds.

We know that Kelly Olynyk is soft as a marshmallow. Other than that.....
