... I'm more excited about James Young than Marcus Smart.  19 year old kid with proper size who can shoot?... I'm in.   Nice to have hope.  I give his performance tonight two thumbs and a Gerald Green nub up.

At 19 he is not even close to a finished product. He'll get better. I wouldn't have taken him but it seems like at worst it wasn't a total miss. The 6th pick however has been a complete bust as I predicted. That's what happens when you draft Banks 2.0. You don't learn from your mistakes. Best case scenario he becomes a defensive role player. He will never become a good shooter that's for sure. A shooting guard that can't shoot??!!! You passed on Randle for that? Brilliant. At least Randle is hurt, Banks has no excuse.

I'm psyched too!!! I read somewhere that Young's floor is Kyle Korver.

In a player development year it's a crime he hasn't gotten more minutes.

He was a couple months behind from the injury in the summer, then missed preseason with the hamstring, then the shoulder. He needed time to catch up, Maine was the best place for it were h could get a ton of minutes, and with a loaded bench of 2's and 3's wasn't much space for him.

I think this shows a trade is coming soon. Just hopefully Young wont be involved in them.

I think the opposite. I really like the fact that he has been practicing with the Cs yet going up to Maine and receiving the green light to score. This is his role and its hard to take a 19 yr old and throw him into an NBA game and let him fire away. The D-League approach has allowed him to get his legs under him as a pro. I expect more minutes for Young after the deadline deals are made.

Young is not a SG according to Ainge, he is a SF.

And yes, he is the best three point shooter we have had since Ray Allen.

I would like to see Turner, Smart, Young, Sullinger, and Zeller start together.

AB, Crowder, and KO off the bench brings a solid mix of offense and defense. Problem once again is the lack of a real scoring threat anywhere. I'm all for Young but we need to see more
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Wow, labelling (and gloating that your prediction has come true) a player a bust less than 40 games in as a rookie? must be very godly of you  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

He's just upset we didn't add yet another PF with defensive deficiencies to the overload we already have in favor of a guard that actually plays D.

You know, that's a great point. However, I do think that based on last nights performance he deserves some more court time in the pros ASAP.

I like Young, and I think he will be a very good player, but he needs a full season of consistently good shooting to become an elite shooter. Since I am superstitious I think the thread title should be changed for fear of a jinx.

That being said, the smooth, effortless, compact stroke does remind me of Ray.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Lot of love for Young today... But next game if he goes 1 for 7 and flat out gets man handled everyone will want him back to the D-League to keep building. Not jumping to any conclusion yet but he is a nice player and might as well play him through his ups-and-downs in the NBA rather than the D-League. But the question is will he get the minutes with the guard heavy roster?

Young is a SG until proven otherwise period.

About Young...isn't it nice to finally have a wing who can actually make an entry pass to the post?  THAT'S what I found to be his most interesting skill.  Did you see the spacing when that happened?  Did you see how much room Sully had to work with?  it was a thing of beauty!

I think we have to go all the way back to Danny Ainge since we had a SG who can make an entry pass.

I remember Ainge or Stevens saying that they thought James Young had a good frame and would bulk up to around 230-235lbs in a few years time. At 6-7 with a 7-0 wingspan, that should make him plenty big enough to play the SF position.
