Do you think this team has enough to offer another team in a trade, should a franchise caliber player become available??

I feel like we lack a player on our roster that another team can sell to their fanbase after they send their most popular player out of town.  We ran into this issue in the Minnesota fiasco with Kevin Love.  Cleveland had the #1 pick which would turn into that player, Golden State had Klay Thompson.  As soon as these two teams entered the discussion, our stock plummeted.

I know we have a treasure chest of draft picks, but we have no young established potential up and coming star on our roster yet.  Our Al Jefferson, if you will. Marcus Smart can be that player, but he needs to turn a corner and show that hes gonna be player in this league first.  I really think think any team that would be trading a potential franchise altering player, would look at our offer, and then some other team would jump in with a nice young established player to sell to their fan base and then a bunch of future #1s  to go along with him, and then we'd be finished.

I think we're still STUCK big time until we get lucky in the draft or potentially overpay a FA to come before we're gonna make any kind of huge deal of note, we need a player that another team can sell to their fan base.

Our assets are top notch, the problem is that if we traded them we'd have no team.  We would need to keep a Rondo and Perkins if that makes sense on top of trading everyone.  We have those players in Sully, Smart and KO, but we'd probably have to trade them with some picks to get anybody.  I guess we'd still have Bass, Bradley, Turner and Zeller, but I'd really like some of the high upside guys to stick around

lol

i dont necessarily think they stink, it's just that theyre supplemental assets.

Draft picks I think are more used to say, hey, the player youre getting back from us isnt necessarily the cornerstone player youre giving us, but with these picks you could possibly end up better off later on than us, while we become better in the short term

Our assets aren't top notch.  There are MANY prospects in the league better than the ones we have.  Many teams will have better picks than we do.

But we do have a TON of assets.   It's definitely quantity over quality.  If a team wants to trade an all-star for a collection of mediocre prospects and late 1st rounders, we have them covered in spades.

I don't think our assets suck. I do think we lack a clear "blue chip" prospect. Smart might very well be that piece but I don't think he's there yet. I think plAyers like Sullinger and Olynyk are nice players but I don't think they players you try to sell other teams on as possible impact players. I think that by next summer though we should have a better idea. Smart will have had another year of development (and hopefully he takes a leap to the next level), you'll have the 2 first rounders (another possible lottery pick) from this summer, plus another year of seasoning for Sullinger/Olynyk. Throw in Bradley/Zeller/Young and a zillion first round picks and that should be a pretty good arsenal to pry an impact player away.

from a basketball stand point I agree for the most part.

However, teams evaluate these trade offers from a PR perspective as well.  What player are the fans going to want to see or be excited about?  Whos gonna sell tickets?

If someone like Melo becomes available, an offer of Marcus SMart, Kelly Olynyk, Jared SUllinger, our unprotected 1st (probably top 8 ) and a few filler picks probably gets the conversation started.

Those assets basically compare to like... charlotte offering MKG, Cody Zeller, Vonleh, their lotto pick and a few filler picks.

All the draft picks in the celtics' possesion are less valuable than a Top 3 pick.
This is not the NFL.

For Melo, I'd agree it would get the conversation started.  The problem is Melo's now in his 30's.

When a star player in his mid 20's like a Kevin Love or a Demarcus Cousins becomes available, I dont think we have enough to facilitate a trade unless a 3rd team were to become involved.  Otherwise teams with another established young player theyre willing to part with is always gonna win the race against us.

I know Im kinda splitting hairs here with the age thing, it's just that with all the talk about Cousins becoming available and some folks were like 'This is it!'  'This is what Dannys waiting for.'  I just dont think were at that point yet

They have a lot of draft picks and some good but so far unexceptional young talent. The Celtics lottery pick this summer is probably their best asset at the moment.

I think the biggest problem is that most guys who are being traded are forcing their way out of their current teams in order to get to a team that offers them a chance to win in the playoffs and Boston currently has nowhere near the talent on this roster necessary to convince the star that they can achieve that here. Most of these stars are nearing the ends of their contracts and have a lot of leverage in deciding where they go and will leave any team that doesn't offer them a chance to win in the playoffs. That is Boston's biggest hurdle right now.

I would love to see a 76ers t-shirt with just their logo and a lottery ball on it.  I guess a jersey with Lottery for the name and 1 for the number would work, too.  I bet their fans are so addled with Stockholm Syndrome that they would buy a few of them, too.

   Oh you mean Kevin Durant.

If in the summer Durant claims he will be signing elsewhere after his last season on his contract, Than yeah we do.

I think the celtics lottery pick this year, the nets 2016 and 2018 draft picks, and the celtics 2017 pick (coming with option to swap with brooklyn) are all equally valuable assets.  All of them should be top 10 picks.  There's no such thing as a guaranteed top 3 pick, so all of them look pretty good.

I feel like two of those picks plus Marcus Smart should be considered a fairly strong package that can contend with a package centered around one blue-chip prospect.  Blue chip prospects aren't offered up too frequently in trades either.  I have my doubts if Klay was definitely offered in a package for Love.
