I wouldn't worry so much about Smart right now. He'll be fine regardless of
whether he plays PG more now or more later.
He can develop some PG skills while at the 2. Think how long it takes some of
the combo guards to take over at PG full time. Years in many cases.
As long as he's playing and getting good minutes at one of the guard positions
he'll progress. The issue is how he fits in a Brad Stevens system because
that's what's in store for this team. So far he's doing a GREAT job.
If he were 100 percent destined to be a pure PG I might want him there now. But
I don't think that's how he's viewed. I'm fine with Smart at the 2 along a scoring PG.
A combo is a combo and it's nice to have the flexibility. Here are some imagined backcourts
where Smart would look great the 2. I wrote in Young at SF and Bradley off the bench to emphasize that you can shooting elsewhere and off the bench (with Smart as the backup 1 if needed/desired)
