I'm guessing we are trying to move Thornton out of anyone.  We need to make room for James Young the second half and with Nelson here we don't really need Thornton.

can we send our 13 million dollar trade exception to Cleveland?
They pick up a center and a back up wing/SG?

God if we could get anything for Green we need to do it now.
Danny would pull the trigger for a few 2nd rounders, but no one wants the chump.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

We were shopping green but supposedly the deals that were out there weren't too good.  I'm not sure Green gets moved but maybe DA will find something.  Bass is the same issue.  We've been shopping him but no takers so far.

Houston if Josh Smith goes elsewhere might come back for Green again. They still have Terrence jones but who knows.  The teams interested in josh smith that don't get him might look at green again.

DA is always good at waiting until he gets what he wants.  He doesn't just trade for the sake of it.

Green, Sully, Thornton, Bass all seem like possibilities to me.  I wouldn't be so quick to trade Sully just because he's frustrated.  Green can opt out but I wouldn't be so quick to trade him either.  We might be able to get him to stay and get what we want.

I think Green is frustrated with losing too whch isn't a bad thing.  Having Green here to me is not bad. I wouldn't trade him just because of that.

Got to be smart imo.  We can work things out.

Fascilitating probably means using out tpe to absorb some salary and let the cavs perform some cap trickery... Getting a pick for our troubles.

Wouldn't mean giving or getting anything major.

The tpe is really only valuable in a small window before we end up with cap space.  Eventually if we want to use our cap space we would need to give up the tpe

Cleveland has the Bogans TPE to use to absorb salary.  Chances are we're going to be giving up someone to sweeten the deal for Cleveland's trading partner.

Unless we overpay him, why would Green stay for a long rebuild?

No. A TPE can't be traded. It is part of a specific deal, where the team in stead of a player gets a TPE. So it exists only for the team that created it. But we could use it to take Varejao's expiring contract.

I don't think he walks away from the final year of his contract, if the c's could facilitate a deal where he gets a guaranteed longterm contract.  he's guaranteed 9 mil.  Someone has to offer him more than that.

Green might be frustrated but he doesn't strike me as that much a jerk anyways.

My point was though that DA always explores all avenues and doesn't just trade a guy because people on forums think he should.

I don't recall any trade rumor about Houston wanting Green.  If they did, they could have had him for the New Orleans pick.  I would have agreed with you before the Rondo trade but Ainge certainly settled on that one.

I don't think he settled.  That's your opinion.  The one trade I actually came up with I liked on my own was similar. He didn't trade him for years and waited.  Ainge explores all avenues.

He's having his best season so someone will offer him at least 12mil.  Even if he can only get 9mil, he'd certainly prefer a long term deal.  Ainge had to give Bradley 4yr/32mil to keep him and Green is worth much more than Bradley.

Maybe, the market for sf's was good last deadline.  I'm not sure Green get's a big contract though.  He might.  He probably deserves it in ways.  I still see ainge exploring out of respect for these guys vs jumping the gun though.

Another thing that factors into this is the new TV deal.  Teams will probably be more willing to overpay knowing that the cap is going to take a big jump in a couple years.

That's true.  I can definitely see Green being moved.  Probably sooner too because of that.  I just don't know for what. That's the difficult part.  We probably want to get James young some time but who knows.  Thornton seems likely to me too.  Bass etc.. I don't know if Wright gets moved yet.  We might want to take a look at him a bit.
