This seems like a horrible idea. Again, we are netting nothing for our best asset. How many times are we going to do this? Worst rebuild I can imagine. Late first and 2nd rounders aren't getting us back to being relevant. This rebuild couldn't be going worse.

I've been thinking bout the logjam in PHO, too. But how would even Thomas help us? Smart, although early, doesn't look like he's ever gonna be a star. He's not aggressive attacking the basket... and if he can't succeed in that domain, he's gonna be a role player on a good team. We keep stockpiling role players and I'm going to move to Dallas to become an all-out fan.
the key here is the "early" part, is it not? 13 games is quite a small sample size by which to judge someone's career. i dont disagree that your conclusions maybe ultimately prove correct, but given the basis of 13 games, nor am i convinced of their validity.

how about this? let's wait and see.  ;D

No. A TPE can't be traded. It is part of a specific deal, where the team in stead of a player gets a TPE. So it exists only for the team that created it. But we could use it to take Varejao's expiring contract.

I bet this is it.  Somebody would have to give up something decent for our troubles, but this would give Cleveland a big enough exception to get a much better player.

Sorry, this is a little off topic.  Didn't Danny facilitate a trade a number of years ago that lead to the other team winning the title?  Was it a trade to Miami?  Could someone refresh my memory.  Thanks....

The Memphis pick has potential to be a lotto pick.

Wright for that pick via Cleveland's Bogans Trade Exception would be awesome!

I agree that it's wayyyy too small of a sample size, just a gut intuition that is, admittedly, colored by my frustration right now. It's just feeling that way. I'm kinda disappointed too because he was generally thought of - and rightfully so, imo - one of (if not, solely) the most nba-ready player from this draft class.

Frustration also compounded by having Nelson out there. Taking a step back, I can understand several benefits - it appears Smart isn't ready to take the reigns, can likely (therefore) learn from Nelson, and if that is the case it behooves us (and him) to bring him along gradually in order to facilitate his growth most successfully. Man, I'm just frustratedddd.  :P

I wouldn't worry about Smart, in his prime years he is going to be a very good player.  He is still recovering from the high ankle sprain, that injury lingers for a long time.  I bet he won't be right for several more weeks.

My only complaint with Smart right now is that he seems to be thinking about playing PG and running a team than just playing basketball.  I would love to see him start attacking the rim, I think we well see that once he is over the ankle injury.

Things I love about him so far, his defense is great, he is actually a better passer than I thought and he seems to have a great attitude.  I think the Marcus Smart we see in February, March and April will be much different than the guy we see now...

I really hope so. And do like the same aspects of his game that you're seeing, as well. Particularly his passing. New he'd come in with defensive, tough-mindedness, and a motor... but have been surprised by his passing ability.

Seeing him timely hitting bigs off a P&R is promising. Think he could become a solid P&R player, esp given his propensity for scoring. Just needs to get to the basket to become more of a threat, and get a consistent elbow shot or tear drop going.

I just hope Stevens and DA give him the reigns already!  Just let him play, the good, the bad and the ugly.  C's aren't a playoff team.  Maybe when the calendar turns to January or February they will do that.

PS - I am also a Heels fan!

This is exactly how I feel. When he runs the point he seems to stop and think about how to start the offense (my hs coach called it playing like a robot). He showed the ability to get into the lane and get fouled in college and I expect this to show up in the NBA once he is comfortable enough to just play.

I think the Cavs extended Varejao.  2 years, $20 million left.

He did it twice. He facilitated Sheed to the Pistons who won the title, and Antoine Walker to the Heat who also won the title. He also of course facilitated Lebron to Cleveland this year, so that's potentially three times. I think Ainge when he is sure his team is out of contention for at least a few years, does favors for agents and teams, and in turn they help him out down the road when they are not contending.

Ah, thanks.  Well, it's not that, then.  I just took for true what I quoted.
