Didn't see if this was posted but looks like Miami could make a move for him...

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12070708/miami-heat-make-move-eye-landing-josh-smith

Chalmers/Cole, Wade, Deng, Smith, Bosh looks good on paper if all healthy.

agreed.  if that team was healthy and with Anderson, they could play with anyone in the East.  Deng and Smith could both work on Lebron and Smith/Bosh can work on Love.

enough diversity on offense that they could give Chicago, Atlanta and Washington are real run for their money as well.  If Miami had a real PG, I think they could become the favorites if they get Smith as well.

smith is an elite defensive big man according to defensive metrics on synergy, if a recall as  PF/C he holds opponents to some ridiculously low .65 points per possession or something like that. he was doomed from the beginning as a small forward on a piston team with no shooters.

This is absolutely true. Smith is a tremendous defender. His problem is that he loves shooting open shots (normally a good basketball trait), but he's really awful at shooting, so he's left open, particularly beyond the arc. It's a bit of a vicious cycle.

Which is why he needs to be on an uptempo team. I think he has the athleticism to do what Brandan Wright did for Dallas.

Does he still?

I think his athletic decline has begun to hit his game hard, at least that's what it looked like watching him play in Detroit.

So where does he go now, then?  Back to Atlanta?  Probably not because of Millsap.  What about the Heat, though?  Now that could be very interesting, pairing him up with Bosh and Deng on the frontline.  How about OKC and Houston, or the Nets?  I honestly have no clue as to where he'll end up.  Any rumors?  Sacramento, perhaps?  Aren't Gay and Smith friends, or are they just both friends of Rondo?  I've got it - Phoenix.  They desperately need any kind of big man, and he would fit in well with their fast breaking style, imo.

He goes to the Knicks and follows in the footsteps of Marbury, Amare, and other talented players who went to NY to showcase their talents only to find out they no longer have any

Maybe it's just me, but I still thought that Marbury had plenty left to give when he was here.  He would have made a great 6th man behind Rondo and Ray, imo, because even if he isn't scoring he can still create for others in his sleep, lol.

I agree, I actually really liked Marbury when he was here.  I know he didnt put up points the way he has historically but I thought he did a really nice job of running the point and distributing.  Honestly still think he's one of the best backup PG's we've had since 08, because he actually had legit PG skills... unlike all the combo guards we've tried to use since.

Phil Pressey is a breath of fresh air for me lol

Marbury's biggest problem on the Celts (believe it or not) was his being too unselfish and not looking for his own shot at all.

I think that was a trait typically referred to as IDGAF-itus.

Unless Philly claims him on waivers and pays his full contract -- which they won't -- he'll be free to sign with any team.

He probably will, although I think he's a better fit next to Chris Bosh than he is next to Howard.

I don't like his fit next to Howard at all. It would cause some major spacing issues and Howard and Smith would clog Harden's lanes. I like his fit next to Bosh but could also see him going to Dallas and playing well in their system.

perhaps, but i think a larger problem was he was shooting at a terrible rate when with the celtics and therefore, wisely, passed the ball often. his fg% was 34% and 3 pt was 23% i think. both were stinky.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
