Rajon Rondo can't be the leader of a good NBA team. He exceled with solid, talented vets around him like Paul, KG and Ray (he became a floor general but the team's culture was made by the Big Three). Do you think a true leader can do something like this?

Danny Ainge knows that. He knows it better than anyone.
And besides that...

» Rondo can't shoot. He's in Year 9 and still can't get avoid terrible 3 point % and FT %.

» Rondo is an overrated playmaker. Sure, he's talented. The passing and the angles... those can be gorgeous. But he overthinks the game on offense and gambles too much on defense (or doesn't even try most of the times).

» Rondo was wasking for MAX money... and he would probably walk away in a few months. Rondo knows the cap will rise ... but Danny also knows his flaws better than anyone and was reluctant to give him a max contract.

» We got a team willing to sacrifice a first round pick in a time when first round picks are like treasures for most teams.

» We got an enormous TPE (12.3 million).

» We got an athletic, real efficient rim protector (Brandan Wright) that can fit nicely alongside not-so-good-on-D power forwards like Sully and Olynyk.

» We can now develop Marcus Smart and we also got a nice vet PG in Jameer Nelson, just for insurance.

» Don't forget that the Celtics went into a very interesting streak when Rondo was out. And even if the dynamics without him don't work out, at least we won't be stuck in the middle of the draft (and out of the playoffs).

For all that... bravo Danny Ainge and Mike Zarren.
