How do you know that he was going to bail? Just like Pierce and KG, he WANTED TO STAY.
Of course he wanted to stay. He also wanted entirely too much money.
Which is a great justification to just accept a garbage deal instead of trying to find something better, right?
Of course it is...
Given how vocal you have been this evening, I am sure you must have some inside knowledge that Danny passed up some other super-awesome deal to take this one. Since the rest of us are mere mortals and therefore have no inside knowledge of this incredible missed opportunity, please enlighten us so that we may also share in your despair.
Wasn't it Red who once said that sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make? Ainge SUCKS.
"Ainge SUCKS". Same message, different thread. Old news.
You didn't like Zeller deal? Or the Smart draft pick? Or the Olynyk pick? I think he's done a pretty good job overall. He got the C's a championship and should have had at least 2 if it wasn't for some questionable officiating and bad luck. Gotta give him credit for that. He made the C's relevant and I wouldn't be surprised if he does it again.
I think if there were a better deal to be had for Rondo, then Ainge would have made that deal. I've got faith in Danny. That said, I'm flabbergasted to find out what Rondo was worth in a trade. It's poignant, and it stings. I'd prefer we kept him or at least held out longer. That's of course said from an outsider's perspective.
We arguably got more to take on Thornton's deal, and he's not even a bad player.
I think what's hard to swallow is that we mostly got spreadsheet assets :
- Big TPE
- advanced stat darling on an expiring deal, flippable at deadline
- vet PG who contenders might want as a backup - flippable at deadline
- mediocre 1st
instead of oncourt assets:
-guys who will help you win basketball games
-young developing talents
As we've seen, Danny can definitely gather spreadsheet assets. He's going to be judged on what he winds up accomplishing on the court when he finally cashes them in.
