With Dallas in the lead, the Rockets are also “still fighting” to acquire Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, a source said.

The only thing that makes sense is a multi-team deal as the Mavs aren't willing to part with the pieces Boston is likely seeking in a Rondo trade (an impact player).  I doubt the draft picks alone will get it done.

Monta Ellis would be very good alongside Marcus Smart in the backcourt.
Dallas seems to want a Monta/Rondo backcourt, based on media speculation at least.

Dallas is emerging as the frontrunner in pursuit of a deal to acquire Boston's Rajon Rondo, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

god I hope this doesnt happen

Better be Monta Ellis (maybe Parsons) or a three way trade that gets us a legit young prospect from another team and picks. Waking up to the Brandon Wright and 1st for Rondo ESPN article this morning made me want to puke and still does

I think there's zero chance they'll give us Ellis for Rondo.

Here comes the afternoon news barrage...

Wouldn't be shocked if a deal is verbally agreed upon tonight.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I sure as hell hope that there is a third party involved if this DAL rumor is true.

Gotta be.  There's no way Danny's accepting a trade centered around Wright + a late pick.  That's a horrible return.  Either Dallas is including one of their decent players or a 3rd team is involved.

Honestly if the best offer we get is Wright and a 1st we may as well just hold on to Rondo and let him walk at seasons end... seriously that offer is incredibly pathetic, but DA knows this or the deal would be done. I like what he's doing.. let the Rockets and Mavs fight it out and increase their offers

Remember when we convinced ourselves the Cavs would give up Irving for Rondo?

I would guess this is why the deal has yet to be completed. I'm trying to think of what contending team could use a player like Brandan Wright coming off their bench.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

i think its pretty amusing to see lots of folks on here trying to polish the turd that is Brandon Wright while a superior player like Rondo, who yes is flawed, but still superior gets constantly ripped on these boards at every opportunity.

It's also pretty irrational to criticize Ainge for not trading Rondo earlier.  The guy was recovering from a torn ACL and the league still hadnt seen if this guy could perform without having 3 other stars around him.  Yeah he probably couldve gotten a little bit more, but losing 20 cents for your dollar and only getting 15 isnt enough to throw a hissy fit

I don't keep track of picks.   What's an absurd number and type of picks that the Mavs could give up?

I don't see how adding a third team is going to significantly changes things for Dallas. They have nothing to offer. It's not a question of Boston not having a need for what Dallas is selling. It is that they are not selling anything of value.

I could understand it with LA Lakers with Julius Randle. Not such a good fit here with Sully and Olynyk already on board. So add in a third team to route Randle (or one of the other two) to a third team to get a player at a position of need for the Celtics (SG or C). Adding a third team here makes sense because LAL are giving up something of strong value that will entice 3rd team to give up valuable piece.

But Dallas!? ... they do not have anything of value that they are willing to part with.
So how is a third team helping them?

I'm going guess it's their '15 and '17 1sts and filler.
