I keep trying to think of some way to package both Rondo and Green to the Hornets. It's a team that needs a shake-up badly. They have too many big men prospects (Vonleh and Biyombo getting buried). They severely underuse MKG despite the fact he's 21 and arguably their best player... his PER is the best on the team, he's statistically the best defender on the team... and yet he can't crack 30 minutes consistently because of his lack of offense (which is improving now that he's re-worked his shot). Stephenson has been a wild disappointment for them... his efficiency has fallen off considerably, but that likely has to do with the system and coach. I also feel like kemba walker is wildly overrated and overpaid. He's an inefficient back-up imo.
But Big Al is solid. THey made the playoffs last year. I'd look at their roster, find all the things that aren't working... and steal those assets before they realize what they have.
To Hornets:
Rondo - 12 mil
Jeff Green - 9 mil
Pressey - 0.8mil
Powell - 0.5mil
To Celtics:
Lance - 9 mil
MKG - 5 mil
Biyombo - 3.9 mil
Vonleh - 2.5 mil
I do that without blinking. There's a team option where Lance only has 2 years on his deal... so if this gamble doesn't work for us, we will not be stuck with him long. Last year he averaged 14 points, 4.6 assists, 7.2 rebounds on 49%/35%/71% shooting. Despite how horrible he looks in the armpit of Charlotte, that's a player with talent and the size to play SG (6-5 230). I start him over Bradley and make Smart our starting PG... or keep Smart off the bench this year and give Lance the ball-handling duties. As for MKG... I'm telling you, that kid is about to break out. He looks really really good this year. And I sincerely believe MKG would be an overall improvement over Green despite the fact that Green has been scoring well. MKG does so many things so well and that offense is coming around (he completely rebuilt his shot this summer and it actually looks good). He's 21! Kid is still 2 years younger than Olynyk. As for Biyombo, maybe I'm a sucker, but I can't shake the feeling that he's Ben Wallace on the Magic. His Per-36 numbers are delightful: 10 points, 14 rebounds, 3.4 blocks on 57% shooting ... He seems to produce every time he's on the court. He's got insane length and athleticism and has all the makings of an elite rim protector. His offense isn't great, but who cares... he can hang around the rim and get dunks. Worst-case scenario, that kid has a Perk-like career. Vonleh has potential... solid asset... I know he has a lot of fans here. He's 19 years old... good project to bring on.
That would be all about embracing the youth movement. From Charlotte's perspective, it's a little dicey, though. Biyombo is expendable for them... they might not make him a qualifying offer this summer, because they already have an all-star big (Jefferson) and a couple higher profile projects (Cody Zeller... now starting... as well as Vonleh if they keep him). MKG, though... if you ask the fans they'll say he's the most valuable asset on the team. They seem to think MKG is the best player on the team and just getting held back. However, if you could sucker them into picking up Jeff Green (and his temporary scoring consistency... which the Hornets desperately need), maybe they'd be open to moving MKG. Bigger problem is how they feel about Rondo, how Rondo feels about extending in Charlotte, and what they would do with Kemba Walker. Rondo would be a big boost for them. Rondo + Al + Green might be an improvement. But Kemba Walker is a overrated chucker who is too small to play SG. He just signed a 44 mil contract, so moving him is probably not an option. That makes this pretty unlikely.
