I posted a thread claiming that all three of those guys are currently top ten in the NBA at their respective positions.  Naturally, that claim was met with quite a bit of dismay and dismissal.  I still hold that this is a true statement, and it led me to wonder which one of these guys do folks generally feel is our best player right now.

I'm very interested to see the results.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Rondo is so dynamic. Even if he is not the scorer Green is or the rebounder Sullinger is, he is still the only player on our team who has proven he can take it to an elite level when needed. I know there are those who think Rondo's best days are behind him, but at 28, there is no reason to believe he can't still be an all-star level pg.

please define "best." best scorer? best rebounder? best athlete? best how?

i can see each of the above being the best in different ways. over all, green has the physical ability to simply dominate games for stretches of time and score gobs of points. but his snooze button prevents him from leading the celtics very far.

rondo is the best in terms of various stats and flash, but his skills make him most effective when OTHERS do the scoring for the team. he is the best at complementing players on a good team.

sully is the best big man the celtics have by far. if or when he gets into shape he will be a force in both scoring and rebounding.

so, define best please.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

The spot is there for Rondo based on reputation but I don't think he's earned it yet. So far I'd say Sully. 16/8.5/2.5, shooting around 35% from deep and advanced stats seem to love him. If he's not our best player I'd think he'd be our most valuable asset, though one could make an argument for Rondo because of his reputation as an All-Star. Sully's 22 on a cheap deal and has shown steady improvement.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

The Celtics are a +5 when Sullinger is on floor.
The Celtics are a -3 when Rondo is on the floor.
Sullinger is our best player.

At the very least Sullinger is certainly a bigger asset than Rondo at this point.  I suspect we would get far more for him than we would for Rondo. (we're highly unlikely to trade him at all, of course)

I'm leaving the definition up to the individual.  Decide for yourself.  Use whatever criteria you see fit.

SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
To me it's

1) Rondo.... despite his horrible shooting, turnovers, defense, free throw %
He's still our guy and he's still our best chance at getting a championship contender together in as little time as possible.

2) Sullinger...posting better numbers than many current top NBA bigs did in their 3rd seasons and of similar age.

3) Green...he's terrible statistically, but he's scoring the ball even if it is with terrible efficiency. He still frustrates the hell out of me but watching him dunk, or go on a 30 point tear like a top 5 NBA player for 4 or 5 games a year is fun....Hopefully he lures his buddy Roy Hibbert to sunny Boston this summer.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
