Anyone who says the Garnett and Pierce trade was a bad one is an idiot.
It was one of the greatest trades in NBA history.
The mistake was keeping Rondo.
Dude, what you're saying is insane.
In fact, I am going to go in the complete opposite direction and say that dealing both guys was a mistake.
Funny part is originally, I actually supported the trade because I really didn't think PP and KG had much left after that horrible playoff run vs the Knicks in 2013.
Turns out, I was wrong.
Both guys meant so much more to the team other than what they did on the court and I feel like when both guys were dealt (Paul especially) that a large part of the Celtics franchise left with them.
Now granted, if the Celts end up drafting a very good player with one of the Nets picks OR if the one of those picks becomes instrumental in a deal for an all-star, I'll change my mind again.
But right now, the way it's looking, we dealt our heart and soul for Wallace's garbage contract, one year of Humphries and 3 draft picks which may or may not be worth anything.
Sometimes I wonder if the whole rebuilding crap could've been completely avoided if Ainge acquired a couple veterans in the summer of 2013 and if he kept Pierce and KG.
EDIT: Also in regards to Rondo. In fairness to Danny, if he was successful in trading Rondo for Chris Paul which he tried to do before the 2011-12 season, the Celts defeat Miami in the ECF that season and likely steamroll through OKC in the 2012 finals.
No offense to Rondo, but getting Chris Paul would've added a couple years of shelf life to Pierce and KG but CP3 didn't want to come here.
