And by the way, last night, Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith were making probably what I would say as the ugliest shots I have ever seen in my years of watching basketball.

And to think at one point I was interested in both guys.

Those on this site that were against getting Smith were 100 percent right.

Take out Monroe (whom hopefully we target next summer) and the whole Pistons team is an absolute train wreck.

I agree we need a star, and I dont think FA is going to yield one for this team. I think this star is going to have to come from the draft and this will lead to the end of the Rondo era in boston.

My personal views / predictions of the youth currently on the roster,

Smart, a very high end frindge all star role player. He will be an all defensive player who gets around 14-16pts per but never dominates on offense.

Sully, I have been really happy with his growth as a player and the key now is bringing his conditioning up. A better conditioned Sully (10lbs lighter) is an near 20pt 10rb randolph type lower end allstar. Never a star but a good 2nd/3rd option.

AB, still has alot of development ahead of him. I like him as a 5th starter on a contender 4th guy on a playoff team.

KO, super sub. His D will never make him a great starter. I like him as a high usage backup 4/5 who is the focal point of 2nd unit offense and finishes out games where scoring is needed.

Young, wild card. Wouldn't shock me to see him become JR. Smith minus the attitude issues. Has great potential to be a 20+ pt wing scorer who isn't a liability on D.

I'm not sure getting a star would matter with this coach.  Michael Jordan would probably only average about 34 minutes a game under Stevens.

Jordan averaged 38.8 minutes a game his final season in Chicago at 34 years old and 39-year-old Jordan averaged 37 minutes a game in Washington.

Stevens has 28-year-old Jeff Green averaging 34.4 minutes and 28-year-old Rajon Rondo averaging 32.8 minutes.

Not that these guys are available all the time in this league but what we really need is a closer.

I was telling my friend last night how we took for granted what Paul Pierce was able to at the end of games or when the clock went down even when his skills declined. Not that I want Rondo taking the last shot but it was strange seeing your best player and captain on the bench for that play.

I don't know who this guy is/will be, but we need him more than anything. I said after the first 2-3 games; this team will lose more games from not being able to close than a lack of talent of any kind.

That's why we tanked last year.   Hopefully Smart turns into one.   But we stink this year too so maybe we'll get lucky in the lotto finally.  Welcome to year 2 of the 3-5 year rebuild that may or may not work.

Even if we end up with a 6-8 pick we might be able to swing a deal for Carmelo with that and some other pieces (Green, Smart, KO) and have enough assets left over to make a play for a top-tier interior defender.

I'm betting that'll be Ainge's play if we don't get a top 3 pick.

Next summer with all the "assets" at our disposal, does Ainge at least try to do the following(whether he succeeds is a different story)?

-Call up the Knicks with one last ditch effort and say
 
"Look. We know Melo is your franchise player but he isn't getting any younger. We will offer you our no 1 2015 pick and 2016 Brooklyn pick, along with Green, Sully and/or KO, Smart and Wallace's deal to match salaries for Melo."

Then with the cap space, go after a legit center and resign Rondo.

So basically, cash in the assets for Melo and use the cap space for a big like Jordan or Gasol.
