I would package Rondo and a combination of anyone not named Smart for a center that can help improve our defense.

... perhaps the Sixers would not be interested in trading Noel for Rondo, but could they be interested in some sort of deal that has us shipping Rondo to Sacramento for McLemore and filler, with Stauskas, 2015/16 PHI 2nds and the 2015 LAC 1st being routed to Philly for Noel (who would then go to Boston)?

Piggybacking off of this a little, I was wading through the Real GM trade proposal forum and saw a thread where a Pistons fan was speculating that Detroit might be inclined to trade their pick for young talent more compatible with Drummond/Monroe than the bigs at the top of this draft (that they aren't guaranteed right now of being able to draft anyway). What about a 3 team deal where Sacramento gets Rondo, Detroit gets Stauskas and Olynyk, and we get Detroit's pick?

Or, what about this:

This is an ideal Rondo offer I think. Hopefully something similar can get done.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=k9cz7y3

BOS trades: Rajon Rondo, Kelly Olynyk, 2015 LAC 1st rounder
BOS receives: Jonas Jerebko, Joel Anthony, 2015 DET 1st rounder (top 3 protected in 2015, unprotected 2016-beyond), 2015 NOP 1st rounder (from Houston; 1-3 protected/20-30 protected in 2015 and in future drafts should it not be conveyed, should fall within 10-14)

DET trades: Brandon Jennings, Jonas Jerebko, Joel Anthony, 2015 DET 1st rounder
DET receives: Rajon Rondo, Jason Terry, Donatas Montiejunas, 2015 LAC 1st

HOU trades: Jason Terry, Donatas Montiejunas, 2015 NOP 1st rounder
HOU receives: Brandon Jennings, Kelly Olynyk

As someone pointed out in that thread, I don't think Joel can be traded back to us yet, so just sub him out for other cheap/expiring DET contracts.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Yeah, I just thought Sacramento would be more willing to trade for Rondo with the risk of him leaving than Detroit would. Sacto could sell to their fan base that with Rondo they're on the verge of contending( would they be?), while if Detroit got Rondo they'd still be a mess, and he'd probably leave despite J-Smoove being there.

True, I'll say this: in terms of feasibility, I like your deal better. In terms of the return itself, I like mine better (though I guess that's like saying, yeah Durant for LeBron is realistic, but Steven Adams for LeBron is a much better return for OKC).

Wow last year when some of us insisted on trading him we were met with hostility and "that's not enough for rondo!".

Let's hope Danny can work something out

Though I've thought we should look to deal Rondo since we shipped off PP/KG, I can definitely understand why some reacted that way until now. Rondo had a whole 'nother year left on his deal and memories of his 2012 ECF series were fresher in our minds. There was also a lot of hope that we'd pull off a big deal a la Kevin Love this summer and Rondo would have better running mates as well as a shot at another ring in Boston

I'm still not on board with trading Rondo.  Please don't see this as "hostility" directed at anyone who feels differently.

It just seems to me that the main argument for trading him at this point is that we may not be able to re-sign him in the off-season.  I feel like that kind of negative decision making would likely backfire and could possibly land us in a very long, drawn out rebuilding process, which is a nice way of saying we'll suck for a long time.

Basically, I'd rather see the Boston Celtics work towards becoming a team where good players want to play than see them work to become a team whose only hope lies in crossing our fingers on young players on their rookie contracts.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

We'd need a pg.

I'd be happy with someone who has established a record of posting 12-7-12. Or something like that.

MCW and their 1st rounder unprotected

When I first read this and saw MCW I immediately envisioned Rondo being shipped out for Metta World Peace and a Knicks pick 2025. MOTHER OF GOD.

Thank god when I read it again, it wasn't MWP.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I want to try and sign him to a nice deal like $14 million x 5 years which should be good value under the new cap if he's not injured.

If he really is leaving then I'd want:

1) Lakers lottery pick and Randle for Rondo and Olynyk.(Has to be a top 5 pick to get it).
2) Knicks lottery pick (they'd have to select for us and then trade it to us) + Hardway Jr for Rondo and Bradley.

Roy Hibbert
Kyrie Irving
Kawhi Leonard (We won't get him through rondo, but he will be a restricted free agent, its a long shot but he is the best pieces out there)

Yes, I also hope the Pistons become so desperate Drummond see no future there. He would be a perfect fit. Young, athletic, 2.13... It's something worth dreaming about.

I'd love some World Peace, but that'll never happen
