But if you’re the Lakers, why would you give up anything for him now when you can try to sign him this summer?"

 ?I don’t think Rondo is a max guy, but he is close to it. I’m not huge on point guards getting max deals. Derrick Rose is a max player. Max guys have to be able to carry a team. If you are the best player, you have to be able to carry the team into the playoffs. I don’t think he does that. He’s a facilitator. Look, he is a really, really great player. But I think he has to be surrounded by the right pieces. Boston might be the right place for him. I think Rondo and Marcus Smart can play together. Neither can shoot but defensively they are relentless. Smart can cover any two in the league. And I don’t think Smart is great as a point guard. I think he is more of a two-guard to be honest with you. He doesn’t have great vision as a point guard. But if you throw Rondo, Smart and Avery Bradley in a rotation, that’s the best defensive backcourt in the league.

I might be in the minority but I am in agreement with whomever this is when they say they see Smart as more of a 2 than a PG. I don't see him having the court vision, passing ability, and command to handle an offense at the PG spot. He might be a great play maker but I see him doing that as a 2 guard.

I agree with the article.

However where Smart isnt a great PG. I think he will develop into a good one. Maybe not a true facilitating PG who gets 8+ assists a game. I see him more as a system PG who initiates an offense rather then one who orchestrates one like  Rondo, Rubio or Nash.

SCOUT: DITCHING RONDO WOULD BE A SMART MOVE

Marcus Smart’s early development is second only to Rajon Rondo’s contract year push as this season’s most compelling C’s storyline. An increasing number of league officials are also applauding Danny Ainge’s decision to draft the tough, defense-minded point guard.

One league scout also buys into the theory that Smart — once he returns from his ankle injury — won’t fully develop as long as he plays behind Rondo.

“I think they’ve got to get rid of Rondo because they drafted a good, young point guard,” the scout said. “Marcus Smart is a franchise-type point guard or can be, I think, who needs to play to be good. He’s fast and he defends. And you don’t say that about rookies.”

I agree with this assessment. I believe Rondo does deserve a pay raise, and is a star I want on THIS team. But as the guy said, he ain't no go-to-scorer, he is a facilitator. He is at best the 2nd or 3rd best star on a championship team. With that being said, he isn't a max max guy but he is near it. We need to find ourselves that go-to-scorer #1 option guy on our team.

Yep.  And it is that ability that can make his presence on this team more attractive to such offensive-minded star players the Celtics need.

I truly think the most gettable guy is melo. I think at some point he and Phil will mutually agree it's time to part ways. Melo wanted that fifth year $$$ and didn't want the accusations of quitting on NY. Phil would rather get assets for melo then let him walk but it has always seemed like carmelo is not a Phil Jackson guy.

The Knicks are a sinking ship and soon everyone will realize if they haven't already that there is no bandaid for the Knicks. There is no quick fix to make them a contender. Another year of no playoffs won't sit well with melo at this point in his career.

In the next 4-6 weeks Melos PR ppl and Jacksons PR ppl will start making the case how the other guy isn't doing what he's supposed to and is to blame for the Knicks lack of success.

Boston has the assets to get melo if nyc is willing. KO would be a nice fit in the triangle.
