I put this one on the coach. Overdoing it with the subs in the game late in the 4th. You can't just bring KO back for one offensive possession after sitting for a couple minutes. Sully sat too long, Rondo didn't come back in soon enough... just terrible.
I'm starting to miss Doc. Not just for the plays he draws up but for his substitution patterns, bad as they were. The players got out of rhythm and they lost their momentum.
How about putting Rondo on The Queen? ****
Rondo will never, ever win that match up, that was dumb!!!
Doc did that multiple times. I think it's not just becasue of the "X-factor"; I think it's also because of the idea of Rondo's intelligence. He got beat (which anyone would have been, even Bradley or Green), but he foulded early and didn't allow LeBron to get a shot off. That is just as valuable as the 5% higher chance that LeBron doesn't get by the another defender.
We've seen Rondo do well against Lebron in the past, tying him up on a jump ball in Miami in the playoffs, and pressing against him in the last game that our team with Perk played against the Heat in 2011. No, it won't always work, nor should it ever, which is a testament to Rondo, imo, but after seeing all of the boneheaded fouls from Bradley and Thornton, I didn't mind it. Captain vs. Captain, and Rondo prevented a 3-point play opportunity. No one is talking about the fact that Lebron missed another critical free throw, btw. I know they won, but come on. I thought he was past all of that now (sarcasm)

.
Edit - I wonder if Smart would have made the same mental errors that Bradley and Thornton kept making. Meh, it doesn't matter. Even he was on the opposite side of the court from where the action was taking place, he still would have been screwed by the officials. Sigh.
