I've banged the "get Perk and PJ3 for Bass+filler" drum for a long time, and it would've been great if Danny got that. While Perk is not worth his current contract, he's FLCeltsfan's favorite player, and that has to count for something, right?  ;)

Bass+Joel might have made some sense last summer, but right now I can't see a trade between the two teams. Signing him at 3M/year would make sense as a backup, but we have to first get Marc Gasol as our starting Center... yeah, pipedream, but to have Marc operating in the high post and Rondo/Smart/Green attacking the basket would be soooo beautiful.

Geez it's been long enough...when are we going to let the Perkins thing go? The guy is on the back end of a relatively average career (with the exception of his ring with the C's). He really doesn't offer much value on the court at this point and in a few years he'll probably be another Joel Anthony type player.

I would love to have Perk back as a big man to mentor our current bigs and maybe get them to play some defense (Sullinger and Olynyk are athletically challenged but nothing like Perk). The thing is the price I'm willing to pay a veteran mentor is like 4 or 5 times less than he is currently making. If he's willing to come for around the vet min or up to 2.5 MM I'd be fine with bring him back.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Sure, we could use a big man coach.

Toughness and leadership from a big wouldn't hurt either. I'd take him at the right price.

My exact thoughts. I think I agree with every post you've ever made.

Perkins was perfect for the big 3. Hard worker, intimidator. But he is not useful when you don't have stars who will account for offense. Perk is a blackhole on offense. You can't have the luxury to play 4 on 5 on offense, when you don't have stars.
As a bench big he can be useful though.

Granted his offense is nothing special, I agree. However, Rondo plays very well with Center who lurk around the basket waiting for the easy slam. He made 38 year old Shaq look like a near all star and also made Perkins look pretty good in his time here.

38 years old Shaq is ten times the player as Perk right now. The deal is that Perk is not an alley oop guy. He has no hoops. Rondo has great success with guys who can finish around the rim. Perk  is not that type of guy.

Rondo has great success with practically anyone who can CATCH THE BALL.  You guys think that Bass is bad, but Perk is almost like Greg Kite in this regard.  I also don't want to have to see him keep bringing the ball down and getting it stripped - and neither would Tommy ;D.  So, to answer the question - NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  He wasn't that good when he was here the firs time.  Our severe deficiency in the middle should be able to be fixed in this year's draft.  At least, that's what I'm hoping for, anyway.  No, we're not going to get a top pick, but I do hope that we get an excellent big man in a draft loaded with centers and power forwards.

if he comes for the minimum as a back up next year, why not?

Only way. Glad he still has some green in him though
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Rondo had plenty of success with Perk, who was among the league leaders in fg% playing here.

Anyone remember Rose mentioning how it was easier to dribble around us without Perkins clogging things up.

I think people forget what a brutal(illegal) screen setter he is.

As a backup and for a portion of the MLE, then yes.  IF we had to pay big bucks, then no way.  Adding toughness at the 5 spot would help but let's be honest, Perkins is no longer a starter quality 5.

if we had legit pieces and needed a center, sure.....but it is pointless to bring him here with our current roster.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
As a backup for the veteran's minimum I'd roll the dice.
He's a terrible basketball player but he'd be a good locker room presence and he is buddies with Rondo.
I wouldn't want him taking minutes from any of our young bigs though.
God he stinks.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Yes of course, but that's not saying much. Anthony is a 3rd string center, at best at this point. We carried him on the roster for a while strictly for insurance. As others on this thread have said, he is a good backup but it is kind of pointless to bring him in as Zeller is a decent backup. What the Celts really need is a starting center.  We're making do with Olynyk.
