Perkins' name gets thrown around a lot on these parts in trade rumors and I typically see people respond with an emphatic "No!". But what about free agency? Assuming Rondo resigns, would you want Perk back to the team? Would he start? I have to admit even if it is Perk, the idea of having a defensive true Center that actually wants to play in Boston is definitely intriguing. He's had some good production as of late as well...

Should Danny resign Perkins next year?

Yes, if:

1. We move Zeller in a deal for a #1C
2. Perk is satisfied with 10-12 minutes per game
3. It is a 1-yr contract with a team option for year 2 at about $3M per

I think he can help some of our younger players, especially KO and Sully learn some of the finer points of big man defense and his intensity and attitude is something that this team misses.

You can't teach footspeed something Sully and KO lack.

Sure, we could use a big man coach.

this.

would also mention that I would only sign him if we couldn't find anyone better to fill the 3rd string center spot on the roster which I think we could.

love Perk but he's toast at this point and although he may be able to instruct the youth on post/help D, I'd want a big man coach that can also teach some offense and that's definitely not something Perk can offer.

Toughness and leadership from a big wouldn't hurt either. I'd take him at the right price.

I'd welcome him with open arms to take a 12 - 15 minute role as our back up center. If we can net a starting defensive Center in a trade, FA, or through the draft I would love to see Perk back with the C's.

My first thought is that if Perk comes back and we don't make any other significant changes to the roster then we're still aiming for ~30 wins.

Hard to argue with this point. Completely agree.

Perkins was perfect for the big 3. Hard worker, intimidator. But he is not useful when you don't have stars who will account for offense. Perk is a blackhole on offense. You can't have the luxury to play 4 on 5 on offense, when you don't have stars.
As a bench big he can be useful though.

Granted his offense is nothing special, I agree. However, Rondo plays very well with Center who lurk around the basket waiting for the easy slam. He made 38 year old Shaq look like a near all star and also made Perkins look pretty good in his time here.

Well, the real answer is probably, 'It depends on the nature of the deal.'

But I will say that to my eyes, Perkins has looked and played better in these last couple of games than I think he has looked in a long time.

You always say yes to a guy like Perk. Half of it is to just build the culture of having guys who won here want to come back and be part of the fabric of the organization. The other half is that Perk can still be useful. Dwight Howard is a matchup we can't really handle right now. Perk could help against those bigger centers and mentor younger guys.

Build the culture, start to win some games and they will come. That's what this next phase for the Celtics has to be about. Oh, that and killer drafting.

38 years old Shaq is ten times the player as Perk right now. The deal is that Perk is not an alley oop guy. He has no hoops. Rondo has great success with guys who can finish around the rim. Perk  is not that type of guy.
