Of course it is a template.....Do you realize how much a veteran like Tim Duncan learns over the years...the HARD way.....think about him teaching that to a rookie the easy way
We don't have a Tim Duncan. Let me tell you something about sports, which is pretty obvious that you have never played a high level. Guys are fighting for a job, you really only help someone when your secure in your job like a Duncan or KG. A lot of guys stop helping if you get good or threaten their job.
Look how popovich sits his stars.....Nov-Jan is the time of year to develop your talent.......make your 2nd string 1st string possible....how..PLAY them..at least then you'll know what you have......or use them for trade bait..
Pop has that luxury. We sit our stars ( and one could debate how many we have) and we in the lotto. I think we should develop our kids and assets but if you do that with this team then we do not make the playoffs. The guys are turned on now and playing about as good as they can on offense, defense there is room for improvement. They are going to have trouble sustaining that effort all 82 games.
.Have you ever played league or pick up..? If so, how did you play versus scrubs....? Same as all of us...not your best.....why...no challenge..and it is enough to protect yourself from the crazy things scrubs do...
I played ball in Europe in early 90s, and yes it was my job. I did well no matter who I played with if they could get the ball past half court. I scored more points vs. scrubs as they could not guard me. Did you see Scal play the two guys? He looked pretty good against "scrubs" I would wager the NBA DL would wipe the floor with most here. There are some good players there. Players who would devastate your leagues. Now there are some great players in some pick up leagues but I doubt your playing there if you do not play well vs. scrubs.
We are missing three stars to use your SA model. Jeff Green and Rajon Rondo are not on par with Parker or Ginobili. We have no Tim Duncan. Even if we had veteran's to teach and we do not we do not have role players as talented as they do. I recall when KG and PP was here people saying they taught them to be a pro but I do not recall people saying they taught them moves or how to play. I think they are talking about the pro lifestyle. Duncan actually has individual scouting reports in his head on each big. He is a very cerebral player. I read that he has mentored Roy Hibbert some.
We are 2-3 stars away from being able to implement that model, though I agree it is time to develop that talent.
