Just FYI, the Celtics have assigned Powell to Maine.  Their season doesn't start until the 14th.  Per Jay King

BOSTON — A couple of familiar faces to the Boston Celtics stood out in the Maine Red Claws' annual Red-White scrimmage at St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine.

The Red Claws are Boston's Development League affiliate based in Portland, Maine.

Dwight Powell, who was assigned to the Red Claws on Sunday by the Celtics, had 29 points which included 19 points in the second half.

Good stuff

And he's back!  According to A. Sharrod Blakely Powell is back with the Celtics.  Maine doesn't play until Friday so maybe it's just temporary.

I've never seen him play...but we should put him in a few rotations..Practice is great, you see some things there....but there is nothing like a real GAME...you see who gets it, got it, and does it..! Besides, the other team cares little for you....unlike your team mates in practice....I wish they would put him in for a bit as a 4.....he is a 4, right ?

His write up sounds decent....maybe his body size, weight-muscle makes them want to protect him a bit....but the D league guys are scrapping for a future..so no love there either..better to play in the NBA, with no scrubs, better refs....real time experience....you know the San Antonio coach would play him....DON'T DRAFT PLAYERS YOU WON'T PLAY..DON'T DRAFT PLAYERS YOU WON'T PLAY......another think I hated about doc rivers......

I think he will thrive in the D-League. In the NBA I ultimately could see him developing into a Jared Jeffires type utility player. Capable of defending big 3s, 4s and smaller 5s.

or a Birdman (defensive player who came from the D-League) who also happens to be very athletic

Found this on Red Claws page

"Dwight Powell – who joined the team today from the Boston Celtics – made the most of his Red Claws debut. Powell finished with 29 points. The 6-foot-11 big man threw down a couple dazzling dunks, scoring 19 in the second half and a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line."

Actually it is quite different.   We cut loose Johnson and Babb.   Then we traded Bogans and our two 2nd rounder from Sacramento 2015 and 2017 both top 55 protected for Powell and 2 2nd round picks in 2016 and 2017 and netted a 5.3 million trade exception.

A draft is  one player, we got picks and gave up picks in this deal, and cut salary.

Powell needs to play now, I think sending him to Maine is the right answer.  We are not the Spurs, they have had a lot of the same parts for years.   This team is very different and next's years will be different too.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't know much about Powell but I think his game is more on the offensive end as opposed to Birdman being an above average defender.
