I'm just a lurker on Real Gm, but I think it's on par with here. The General Board is petty as expected, but I tend to use Real Gm mostly to gauge where other fan bases stand on our players, their players, and most everything NBA in general. I've determined Raptor fans are collectively the funniest and most self deprecating posters, as fans go.

That's just what Canadians want us to think, before they strike.  Notice how the Canadian-run media keeps everyone looking at the southern border.  Don't be fooled.

…the forum is just ridiculous. Often enough I simply can't believe what I'm reading here.

It starts with all the Rondo-bashing, which I really can't understand, since he's the last guy around from our championship team.

Then there are guys who are suggesting to start James Young over Bradley, after Young made 3 Layups during garbage time in a blowout loss. What are these people smoking?

Same thing with starting Smart over Rondo…. Besides from the fact, that it will NEVER happen, how can you seriously believe Smart is the better option?

I won't even start about some "trade ideas" some guys here come up with…

I know that everybody is thinking: "Then just don't read it!". I know I shoudn't but I still do, maybe I'm a masochist!
I really like the writers and their articles on celticsblog, but can anyone of you recommend a more serious celtics fan-forum, where people don't come up with so much BS? Maybe one where you have to pass an IQ test before you can subscribe for it?

I would rather have Smart and Young starting than Rondo and Bradley.

I am tired of us being the 98 lb weakling of the NBA.

Boo!  Hiss!

On the topic at hand, there's no perfect forum.  I understand the frustration with occasional topics, but I prefer that model to the elitism of some other sites.

This is a site devoted to the operation of The Boston Celtics. Any and all possible outcomes can and will be inevitably be explored. Smart will not start over Rondo, but there's no rule saying he couldn't, let's imagine what that would look like if he did.

Jeff Green will never be traded for Bismac Biyombo... but if he did what would the team look like, could it maybe be the start of a deal? Lets explore. KG, Pierce and Terry for Wallace, Humphries Bogans and picks would have had several posters calling it impossible. Too much Salary for Brooklyn. We'd never take back Gerald Wallace and his bloated contract. But then it happened. Lets explore why.

Much of the discussion may be background white noise but every now and then you see some real beauty like when that poster suggested Brad Stevens as a coaching candidate weeks before he was hired.

This is hands down my favorite basketball community on the net. It has a great blend of historically knowledgeable fans from the glory days to new folks like me. Most of us just average people trying to find an outlet for our ideas.

I hate to break it to you, but this is one of the smartest basketball forums on the web. Act accordingly.

Seconded, and I'll add that a lot of the opinions you hate are coming from people who would "pass an IQ test" (what's a "passing" IQ grade, anyway?)  Otherwise smart people often make really dumb judgments about things they are emotionally invested in - just look at politics.

My advice is to ignore the ridiculous posts and try to elevate the discussion yourself by making posts you consider interesting and insightful, and responding to the same kind.  And don't get depressed when the bad posts inevitably get 10x the attention  ;)

TP!  That is such great advice for a newbie, and for all of us really.

I'd say we fall somewhere in the general "wicked smart" range, but short of a collective Einstein (relatively speaking he was no hoops genius anyhow).

BTW, I'm lobbying for Marcus' nickname to be Marcus "Wicked" Smart.
Yup

I've been a lurker on here since before the move to sbnation. Back then my username was DinoRadja and I posted about as often as I do now.

I decided I would have to come out of the shadows for this thread.

I love this site. I probably check in multiple times a day three hundred and fifty days out of the year.

I think the staff does an incredible job. For the vast majority of the posts I may or may not agree with the posters opinion. but in the vast majority I can see their points and understand where they're coming from and get a sense of how they arrived at their ideas or opinions.

I do not have any point of reference for any of the other countless blogs out there in the web-verse. so I can't comment how Celtics blogs forum compares to any others.

But I have to admit there are the occasional posts where I come away scratching my head perplexed or even mildly frustrated. Those are rare but they do happen I have to assume they happen on every sports based forum on the internet.

Recently posts like Kelly Os preseason minutes.... James Young starting ..... and the occasional heavily lopsided trade proposal all come to mind. This is nothing new. for those of you who have been around for a while think Gerald Green.

You take the good with the bad. And there's an awful lot of good on this blog in my opinion.

I just try to take the non-staff fan posts with a heavy grain of salt. If you're struggling with that, stick to the staff articles. I think you'll find them all insightful and based in reality ,although you might still disagree with their own point of view.

Sorry for the dissertation.

Haha! Let me extend the olive branch by way of the Tommy point. I'm pretty sure there are posters with dual membership here. As others have said, I tend to find the extremists entertaining. Some of them actually manage cogent arguments, however radical.

And to foulweatherfan-- You know I never thought of that. I'm probably one of the many who are brainwashed by the Canadian media you speak of. I do tend to overrate Michael J Fox...

Even if they are planning a massive unprecedented sneak attack, their Real Gm posters' Sigs ripping on Colangelo, Casey, and various past and present Raptors makes it a fair trade in my book.

You pretty much have this site pegged. most posters on this forum expect to win every game or get rid of everybody, they're just spoiled.

I will admit it is kind of frustrating to shoot 61% and lose a game like this. and yes, you have to play the game for 48 minutes but they cant be 48 sloppy minutes with 28 turnovers.
just before the season started it was stated by all,  that these first 9 games would be brutal yet we are pretty close to being 3-1.

BballTim said.....This is probably true. I checked out a few other sites before I started coming here and the difference was fairly big. Although some of the posters we've picked up over the last few years have dragged down the level of the forums. It's still better than I remember from other sites though.

please by all means leave some links to these sites, I would be very interested!!!

Meh. Lot of intelligent, well-informed posters here. Most probably have a pretty significant emotional attachment to the team, which may bias opinions/posts. But overall, the discussions seem to generally stay on topic and are informative, particularly when you're getting multiple perspectives.

That said, I just looked at our schedule... I love the make-up and mentality/personality of this team, but we are frieken doomed.

Lurker since '05 here...love what cincyfan/dinoradja posted.

On an unrelated note, how I miss Dino Radja in a C's uniform...oh, nostalgia.

I've always found the core group here extremely thoughtful and well-spoken -- and as an added bonus, they all seem to tolerate me well (and I'm the most abrasive person I know :P). The banter on Celtics, basketball, or simply life issues has always been great.

Of course, a good part of us has been around for ~10 years now, so that's also indicative of the average age of the gang ;)

Looking for the Celtics' forum with the least extraneous bs, google celtics forum and find the one with the least traffic.  You can then offer your ideas to the other six people in their relatively private conversation.

Yours is a strange request/complaint.  In a highly emotional and hyperbolic arena (sports) and in an anonymous environment, consider the conversation similar to in a bar toward the end of happy hour.

The bizarre part is that you have picked the site with the most traffic, the highest ratio of pith to chaff, and the best monitored--to offer your complaint.

A couple of hints:

When you see a post, often not even rephrased, repeated multiple times in the same thread--remember the poster.  They should have educated you that you can probably skip over their offerings without losing much.

If you run across a thread offering a trade and it doesn't warn in the title that it is just an idea, move on.

If you stick with this site, double check the poster on offerings you find particularly unsatisfying.  Odds are their future prose will be similarly irritating and you can save yourself some grief by just skipping past.

One final note, this site has a much higher percentage of well thought out ideas, often backed with details and supporting evidence.  True, this evidence frequently falls under the third type of the Three-Liars triumvirate, statistics, but even that often sparks some insightful exchanges.  You've stumbled on a jewel mine and are carping about the tailings.  Yeah, the floor in front of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre is probably dusty also.

This is pretty much my thoughts as well. Not only are there a ton of posters with good thoughts, ideas and opinions, there are many posters with a crazy amount of knowledge of finances, the cba, and advanced statistics, and there is also a boatload of top A comedy here as well.
