If Rondo remains a Celtic, at some point in the next three seasons, he will likely be the NBA (or at least Eastern Conference) leader in assists per game on a team with a winning record at the point in the season when All-Star rosters are set.  I think there is a non-zero chance that he is an All-Star if that happens.

Good shout although I think we can safely say if he was in the West he would never be an All Star again.

Rondo is a dinosaur these days in terms of his style of play at PG.

To answer the thread title question:  No.

And while I won't at all be surprised if he does, I don't really give a hoot whether Rondo ever makes an all-star roster again.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

We need to set the tone early and put Smart/AB backcourt is the best way to do it
(Rondo still gambles sometimes on defense and let his opponent get past him)
we will need the defense intensity and fighting spirit
or maybe we should start Rondo, if he didn't play defense we put on Smart early

You realise that Rondo so far is averaging a near triple double (8 points, 11.7 assists, 8.7 rebounds and 2 steals) over the first three games, right?

He's struggled with his shot (no surprise given he just returned from a broken hand) but those are ridiculous numbers.

I don't like getting into discussions about whether a player will be an all-star, but there's no real reason to think Rondo couldn't be an all-star in the west. Rondo isn't a complete dinosaur, but point guards having the skills he does is becoming fairly rare.

I cannot believe this is a real thread.

Anyone who thinks that Smart should start over Rondo, should go read a baskeball book and not come back until they have even a little bit of b ball knowledge.

I saw the title of the thread and knew it had been started by one of 4 people that have an irrational dislike for Rondo.  I guessed right.   ::)

it isnt. it's just a bad dream and we will all wake up soon.

Unless we get back another all-star level player, no I won't be glad IF Rondo is traded.  It will just mean that the re-build is longer.
The jury is still out on whether Rondo is an "all-star level player" at this stage of his career.

Well, I don't know many players almost averaging a triple double. So, I'd say he is at least at an All star level. Also, where are all those people who said he only got his assists by playing with three HOFs, seems to be doing fine to me.

Yup. Shooting at a delicious 38 percent and 20 percent from the 3 pt line. 4.3 TO a game also. Yummy

It's not like he has ever been a great shooter. He rebounds at the point, sets team mates up, and scores close to 10 a game. I mean he has 30 assist the last two games. Also he shot 5/8 last night

Also, to add to that. I'm not starting our rookie shooting 33% over a four time all-star shooting 43%

  • You say when......
Smart is NOT a PG...he is struggling to be a good 2 as it is......Rondo is still evolving as he got a chance to see some of his flaws while sitting out and he fixed them. Some here are WAY too critical of him. You need to think in terms of STANDARDS, as in compare using the SAME standards......Rondo actually shoots as well as anyone on our team, shooting is a matter of adjustments and practice......shooters shoot till it comes. not many look at the % of a guy, they just get enamored of the points....Well, those are possesions wasted....and some don't even wait till a person could rebound it. Rondo IS the floor commander.....we saw a ragtag team with little ball movement in preseason, no rondo......

Smart will be better as the 2.....if he can't do that....well....He is not the pg....!

Smart is NOT a PG..
And what is that assertion based on?

No Smart shouldn't start, Rondo is playing great, basically averaging a triple double a night....the best part of Rondo right now is that he seems confident in his knee and his body.  I am not a big Rondo guy but tough to deny his start to the season....
