I certainly wouldn't give up any more for Kanter.but if the Jazz can't get a better offer that I say we take a swing at him he doesn't play much defense but he's a huge body still has some upside and I'll take a look at them for a late first what do you guys think

Yeah, I would do that. Perhaps sweeten it with a future 2nd rd pick too.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Why would Jazz so that again...?

It's based on your perspective, quite simply

Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

I would do this in a heartbeat. Since the Jazz didn't offer Kanter an extension, they might be willing to deal him for future assets. However, I think they might be able to get more than just a late first and Bass for him.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Why would Jazz so that again...?

This.

22 year old lottery center with great physical tools who's polished on offense with several years of NBA experience.

It's going to take at least a bit more than a late first.

And I'd be willing to give up a bit more than a late first, because he's a center with potential, but also partly because we have such a mismatch in talent and can afford to play.

Guys like Thornton and Green would be appreciated by a contender like Charlotte, who can entice Utah with the picks and/or young players in a three team trade. AB is an interesting chip for Utah.

yes, indeed, IMO charlotte is one of the teams that might want some of our vets. though in such a situation we could just ask for vonleh instead of kanter.

The Jazz stink and if they think Kanter is part of the reason they stink, that might be worth considering.

Pass.

Why would we need another big that cant protect the rim? We have like, what, 5 of them already? Why waste a pick on something we have plenty?

Vonleh will cost a lot more than the Clips pick + Bass. I'd throw in James Young and the Cavs pick too before they'd even pick up the phone.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Exactly.

Kanter is available, Vonleh is not.

Charlotte has Biyombo and Jeff Taylor who may spark some interest for Utah (hopefully).

Pass.

Because Kanter has the potential. Stevens will help, though I don't think he'll ever capitalize on much of it.

A 7 foot bull will at least be far more imposing than Mr. "6'9 Jellybelly" and the lanky kid with hair when non-defending opponents. (Don't get me wrong, I love my Sullynyk and think we can keep both. It's all fun and games.)

I think Kanter will at least be able to provide some resistance against the likes of Howard with his body. Good team defense will be icing.

To be what lazier?

Another man's trash is another man's treasure on pickers.   But in NBA if a team gives up on a guy this is rarely the case.

Must be trash.

I love all the inane hyperbole in this thread.

The Jazz don't extend Kanter = "THEY THINK HE SUCKS AND THEREFORE HE'S TRASH"

Let me guess... the Bulls think Jimmy Butler sucks, too?  And the Spurs must think Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard sucks, too.  Same with OKC and Reggie Jackson.  Because we all know that if a team fails to reach an extension with an impending restricted free agent, it means they're "giving up on the guy."  Except for the many times a team has let a player reach restricted free agency and then re-signed him, like Utah just did with Gordon Hayward or the Hawks with Jeff Teague.  Or... hmm... like the Celtics just did with Avery Bradley.  But yes, Utah clearly wants nothing to do with Kanter in the future.

... despite the fact that the Jazz explored extension talks with Kanter, but failed to agree to terms.

But, you know, keep on keeping on with your horrible hot takes.

he doesn't play much defense but he's a huge body
and the reason for giving up a PF that's a borderline starter AND a 1st for this guy is what?

he's not a defensive presence and his work ethic has been in question.

I admit to never being a fan of his from the day he was drafted but he hasn't shown anything yet to make it worth throwing assets at Utah for someone who's biggest plus is that he's tall.

I would do that trade only because Kanter (22 years old and 6'11, former top 5 pick) is a better trade chip then an expiring Bass/1st.  Utah says no, though.

but if Utah was open to that deal then I would do it.  I don't love Kanter at all.  In my opinion is upside is Pek (Minny) which isn't exactly vaulting you into contention....But Kanter would be a good trade chip in a larger deal later this season (LMA, Cousins, etc)
