Went to a gym in Houston, Terry was there. Who cares?

No, went to the Rockets stadium with Jason Terry -who plays on the team you are playing that night- to shoot/get shots up.
I'm wondering if Pierce or KG have ever gone to shoot around before a game with a player on another team- particularly the team they're playing that day...I doubt it.

Or went to the stadium (an accessible facility) and Terry was there as well. Or should Rondo never visit a stadium to get shots up?

Being made more of a deal than it needs to be. But conspiracy!

How about, 'he went to the stadium with former team mate and now opponent, Jason Terry to get some shots up'.

Changing it in your own mind to 'Rondo went to shoot at the gym and bumped into Jason Terry' is a great trick- sometimes known as 'delusion' lol, just kidding  8)

In all seriousness though, I dunno why it's 'ridiculous' to ask if other fans think this is a questionable move.
If KG or Bird were on this team there would be absolutely no shooting around with the other team- no matter who the opponent.

I've added speculation, but I think it's pretty justified- just seems a really weird thing to do.
Who shoots around with the opposing team before a game?

The Worst part of all this to me...is that Terry actually hit a couple of 3's against us last night---when he NEVER hit an important 3 FOR US--the entire time he was here---BUTTTTHOLE--!
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Seriously this is getting ridiculous if Rondo leaves in free agency wouldn't even blame him
I hope he does not leave but then it may teach the complainers to appreciate having such a uniquely talented player. The nitpicking over every little thing he says or does is unreal.

KG and Pierce would go to dinner with friends on other teams the day before games or the night after. KG/Rondo are less buddy buddy than most NBA players, but they still make friends.

Even if he was sounding Terry out about the Rockets, who cares he's going to be a FA and he's going to take meetings with other teams.

If these two never were team mates, I might be suspicious. But they were. I´m thinking they became friends and JET helped RR with his shooting and this is just continuation.

Based on what? You don't think they'd ever hang out with former teammates when they're playing the player's team? I wouldn't bet the farm on that. Ray maybe, but I doubt they religiously avoid spending time with friends.

I think they'd definitely hang out, maybe go to dinner after a game- but going to shoot around before a game with an opponent is (to me at least) bizarre and I doubt this specific thing happens very often. I don't think anyone cares if they go out to dinner after the game- this is different to me. Usually teams have different times to use the court and avoid each other before the game. ie the Celtics shoot around is at 2 pm and the Rockets shoot around is at 9.30 am for 2 hours. They don't cross paths until tip off.

Apparently Rondo went to either the training facility or the Rockets stadium court with Jason Terry to shoot around in the morning. They played each other 8 hours later.
That's got to be a strange occurrence and I'll speculate that Scalabrine thinks so too given his response/tone when hearing this from Abbey the sideline reporter.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think its a little bit weird. Not like, "This is a big deal" weird, but one of those things where if Rondo did get traded to Houston, Bill Simmons would be all over it saying he "Knew something was up" after hearing this.

But 9 times out of 10, this means nothing and nothing comes of it (if we're talking about other players)

I would assume that this was outside of the team shoot arounds, that Rondo still went to to the Celts shoot around and Terry still went to the Rockets shoot around. I'm not sure why you'd think that players hanging around together or going out to dinner is perfectly normal behavior but shooting hoops together is bizarre, but to each his own I suppose.

You really can't see the issue there Tim? There's a difference between game day shoot around the morning of your game with opposing players and going out to those same players after the business has concluded.

I'm not sure if you heard the broadcast, but I'll ask you anyway;
Why did Brian Scalabrine want confirmation from Mike Gordan that Abby actually said that Rondo went to shoot around with Jason Terry today ? His tone could best be described as 'is that what she really said?'
It's not common occurrence to do this thing pre-game.

I'd guess that most of the hanging out together would happen before the game as teams frequently hit the airport after the game. I saw a lot of the game but not live so I probably fast forwarded through the discussion. I still don't see why you're concerned that the shoot around was some sort of recruiting tool, where a dinner wouldn't be.

A lot of focus being made about the broadcast, when this was the original report:

gary washburn @GwashburnGlobe  Nov 1
Rajon Rondo said he and Jason Terry ended up at the same gym Friday night in Houston practicing on their shots #celtics #rockets

Whatever. This is not worth the time or effort. We'll title this episode as "The one where Rondo went to work on his shot, and gets crucified for it."

Rondo is trying to decide which team he will sign with after the season.

Yeah, great logic  ::) ...considering the fact that Terry is not even under contract with Houston beyond the 2014-2015 season.
